Hello, I'm new here but not new to old cars and trucks. I live in Vero Beach, Florida so I'm lucky to be able to work on my truck year round, but with 2-kids and a full time job, its more like 2 hours a week! I am 3 years in on rebuilding my 1955.2 Chevy 3100 step side with NAPCO 4x4 conversion. It's been a huge learning experience and I have found that most of the answers I have are answered by forums like this one. You can see my project from beginning to today at the following link. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2228940950102726664xzAogn?vhost=rides Now for the questions! Michael
Welcome aboard! The project build looks really neat. What time frame do you have invested to date? Keep the pics flowing.
Von Farly, Unfortunately, the only thing salvageable from that 58 was the NAPCO 4x4 running gear and PTO winch. The truck came from Minnesota or Wisconsin and it didn't have an easy life! I'm sure Dashman can attest to that. The body was collapsing on to the rusty frame. There is one bright spot though, a guy down here with a 58 had hit a guard rail to avoid an oncoming car and it turned out that he needed to replace a long strip on the p***enger side. Well, that was the only part on my truck that didn't have rust. So my 58 saved another 58 and gave me the 4x4 running gear and PTO winch for the 55. It lives on. The NAPCO running gear were all bolt on kits so installation was a breeze. I have about 3 and a half years into this project, but I am over the hump now. I figure 2 more years to finish. I can't wait, not many cl***ics in Florida.
they used to advertise if u decide to sell your chevy take the napco power pak out to put into your newer truck and sell the rest as they were that reliable and that tough!...i have a 1958 gmc napco panel 4x4 all running still original cept the negine is now sbc v8 ...im in calgary alberta canada and found it here...it has stickers on it that said it was a tourista in 1974!...so as far as i can tell it was made in windsor, purchased in alberta and toured to mexico and back with no problems as nothing has ever been opened up! i am looking to use it to save old cars and trucks to allow younger men and women to be able to rebuild and drive them again... and i also say welcome to the H.A.M.B.!
