It's been several years but one of my most interesting sites visited was Bear Country, I think nead Rapid City. They have the biggest (about 15' long) buffalo there I ever saw). We're driving thru there and all the bears lying around get up all at once and start moving towards the road. Here comes a pick-up truck with the back loaded with vegetables and a guy with a shovel. He unloads the truck as it moves along and the bears have a feast.

  2. Here's some pictures from a trip we took to the Black Hills in '08.
There is a large 11,000 acers Wild Horse Sactuary on the south side of the Black hills. It's really amazing. They take you on a bus trip around the Sactuary. There's a lot more to see than wild mustangs. The Scenery is georgeous. A few movies have been filmed there.
Wind Cave is pretty impressive. Theres's a lot to see in the Black hills area.
The waterfall is in the Spearfish area.

Going west out of Pierre on Hwy 34. Turn South to Midland and partake of the Hot Mineral bath. On west to Wall. See Wall Drug(tourist trap) and the Badlands. Stop at Ellsworth for the aircraft. The flying wing has a Corvette back window for a windshield. Do the Mt Rushmore, Needles, Pigtail bridges loop, Tourist trap of your choice, Down to Custer Park and wind cave, over to Custer for Crazy Horse. Turning North to Pactola, Deadwood-Lead, Over the mountain for Spearfish Canyondrive.Stop at the Lodge for dinner. I Built the doors and Fireplace doors for the lodge. On down to Spearfish for the fish hatchery and the Heritage Museum. Contact Gene Johnson and ask for a tour of the Reibe Buffalo Ranch. Say the wrenchbender sent you. North to Belle Fourche, West on hwy 12 to Bear ****e. South to the Buffalo Jump by I-90. Backtrack to Beulah(just a few miles) for a steak. Service road west to Sundance. Home of the Sundance Kid. On west to Wyodak for the mine tour. West to Gillete to the Museum. Not much past there till Yellowstone.
    Have a great trip.
Word of warning. Once you get west river, services can get to be few and far between on the two lanes especially once you're past wall. To 70 miles from Wall to Rapid Only have 1 gas stop on the Interstate and I don't think there are any on 42 for at least 40 miles.

  4. Wall to Rapid is only 50 miles:rolleyes: And if you dont gas up there New Underwood is 18 miles out and Box Elder 10 miles. Plenty of fuel stops.:p

Kev, we can get CrazyD to arrange a cool private tour of a local museum/stash. Even has a Waco or Stearman to look at.;)

Oh well huh. If your gunna be here aroung June, and your farthest west stop is Sheridan then you picked your target right. I dont want to toot Sheridans horn but I grew up in the south part of Wyo and have travel all over the state, ( yellowstone, tetons, plains, independence rock, saratoga, bosler, everything) Sheridan is by far the best town in the state. I live here and I love it. If you come to sheridan, yes, drive up the big horns but dont were out your brakes and dont forget to come back through sheridan, check out main street, which is one of the best preserved Main Streets left in America. ( we dont have a gay mall or anything so it is still the commerce center) Head south through sheridan on Coffeen Ave. towards Big Horn, Wyo. Only 7 or so miles. Stop on your way at the Big Horn Y Convience and Liquor Store and come say hello to me. ( I run the joint and can give you all kinds of ideas of where to go in person) Big Horn is just a beautiful place right at the base of the mountain and then from there Story which is right up the mountain stuck right in the trees. Head another fifteen and Buffalo Wy. Seriously though PM me and if yall come to sheridan I would love to sit down with ya and give you all the 411 on what there really is to see in the Big Horn Region of Wyo. (To much to List and its always nice to have a local to you were to head then someone who has just buzzed through).

Agreed. I think as far as amazing scenery and two lanes are concerned, thats what you get between Gillette and yellowstone. thanks Dan for backing me on that one.

Stop in Rapid City SD between June 21 and 27 to see the worldwide, every 5 year Sunbeam Tiger event. Beautiful Tigers from all over the world. From historied race cars, to heavily modified or 100 point concourse originals it will all be there, in a totally relaxed environment. Good people too.
    Check out catmbr.org/events.

Sorry to highjack BUT since this has the attention of some of the guys in the Yellowstone area, which way should I take for scenic beauty to the West Yellowston entrance? (I'll be coming from East Helena) Should I go 287 or 191?

It's a couple hundred miles out of your way, but if you're coming this way early to go to the "Back To The Fifties" event, Sioux Falls, SD has a great car show/event on Wednesday night, June 17th.

Thousands of cars, live bands, good food, FREE!

    Here's the website for details
    http://automaniasiouxfalls.com/

Lots of cars going to St Paul for the BTTF make their way to Sioux Falls for this
    event, as well.

    Come and see us...

They are nice an warm too! And they work just like they are supposed to. When I got hit a few years ago, they only took a scuffing. Me, only bruises. Other than that, they were pretty much just like the day I bought them. Oh, and they are great raingear too. Water just slides right off of them.
