I have to have a vin inspection done on my Buick, the only problem is, I can't find the vin plate. Any ideas or where should it be? I've looked on the dash and the door frame, both wiht no luck. Thanks for the help.
drivers door hinge pillar.... If it's not there, then maybe you're gonna have trouble. Not sure about Buicks, but 1950 was the last year Chevy VIN tags were screwed on instead of spot welded. Look for two small holes a couple inches apart
my 52 Buick it on the Drivers side "A" pillar. Also some of the 50's cars where ***led to the engine number. Might check that as well.
Thanks for the info. I've already looked at the pillars and door frames, so I guess it's off to look at the frame and the motor.
check the engine block. I had a 53, and the number on the door sill was different than the number on the engine. ***le matched the engine. I almost had a panic attack, when the DMV guy was calling the Highway Patrol, saying the numbers didn't match. I thought they were going to take my car. I had never checked the ***le against the car.. Luckily I hadn't yet swapped out the engine, and we found the number...
On my 50 buick special sedanette the body tag is located on the top of the p***enger side cowl it is a aluminum tag and the vin is on the inside of the A pillar on the drivers side. pm me if you have any other questions my 50 is stripped down and mounted to a rotisere getting the full body treatment before a chop and a 430 bbb from a 69 wildcat
If it has the straight 8 engine in it, the number is just to the right of the distributor on the block. There will be a little bossed shelf that its stamped on.
Your Avatar picture, are you just bringing that 50' out of that Ol'barn? If you did, looks like a cool find.
Actually, it was under a big cedar tree and I'm backing it into the old barn for storage. As soon as I get the ***le work cleared up, it will be going up for sale.
I've been gone for quite a while because of family health problem and haven't even looked at this thing until yesterday. I did find a VIN plate stuck to the body on the drivers side, even with the dash in the door jamb. The problem now is that the plate was held on by two phillips screws so it appears to be origional, but the plate only has two numbers on it. "88" So, I guess my search continues.
the guys at Buicks.net helped me translate the vin plate on my 51. lotsa straight 8 tech stuff too. good luck!
