Hello has anyone any experience with the 48 to 49 cadillac engine swaps.i just aquired a 1948 cadillac 4 door sans engine it used to have the flathead v8 and i have an 331.48s and 49s are very similar but what do i need before i put the 331 in the 1948 do i need different motor mounts? I have the trans that backs the 331 and everything else except exhaust.
Back in the 60s, I was working at a dealer, and we did this change on a 41 Caddy He**** for a funeral home. I don't remember any details, but there was no drama involved, pretty much just bolted in.
The frames are the same less front motor mounts. I have the clip off my 49 fastback currently and could take some pictures to compare your 48. PM me. Jeff cad/lasalle club
'48 and '49 are identical, with the exception of the engine...'48's were flatheads, '49's had the "new" overhead valve 331"...I'd imagine that only motor mounts and possbily ****** mount would need to be changed...there is virtually no difference in the frames. See if you can find a "shop manual," it would point out the differences, if any. R-
