Do I need to add hardener to One shot if I clear over it? Is there a better way or better striping paint to use if you intend on clearing over it?
If you're trying to clear over them with urethane clear, they have a bad habit of lifting or 'ribboning' when the activator in the clear bites into them. The only way to 100% prevent this is to add a couple drops of the clearcoat hardener to the 1-Shot before you lay the stripes down.
thanks guys. thats what i heard but im giving it a shot tonight and wanted to know what everyone here had to say
House of Color striping paint is made to clear over..pulls nice too. But I use one shot because I'm old school. haha
the HOK striping enamels are decent, but I havent' seen a distinct advantage of using them over just striping with regular old DBC or ChromaBase urethane's if you are striping on a 'prepared' surface (cleared, color-sanded, ready for clear after the pinstripes). The HOK striping enamels seem way way too runny compared to 1-Shot's paints, so I end up having to leave them sitting out open for a few days to let them dry out a bit. If you can find 1-Shots 'Pre-No-Lead' formula paints, they are even better than today's 1-Shot mixture. Love the leaded stuff, even though I havent been able to use any for quite a few years now. Miss it...
You can stripe over 1-Shot without hardener if you clear it before it's fully dry without it wrinkling....Just be careful not to run the clear as the stripes will run along with it
I always use whatever hardner they are using in my 1-shot. Done this for 20 + years with very little probs. Stripes need to dry and then dust a few coats, tack and go.
