Ok, dropped spindles are for disc brakes only...what if you have drum brakes with no intentions of changing them? Here's my novice question: can you simply flip/turn upside down the factory spindles? It looks like they are symmetrical except the spindle part is off center which means if they were flipped it would set the car down lower. Is this a crazy idea for whatever reasons, is it actually impossible if I were to actually try it, or is there some merit to the idea and people have done or do it? specific car is a 1959 chevy sedan.
im not sure what that spindle looks like but... wouldnt that put your steering arms in the wrong direction?
early 50s car was from time to time getting the treatment with flipped spindels, but they got bad wheel alignment. And some got to much lowering..... but why not, check it out! I´m not familiar with the ´59s, but if you could reset the angles to specs, then it should work. About the steeringarm front/rear changes... left on the right side, and right one on left side........ Check out if you need some change in steeringarm/ steeringbox placement to not get the infamous "bump steer" ...
No and no they are not. Tapers are wrong to fit the ball joints not to mention different sizes and the King Pin Inclination would through your wheel camber off by several degrees. As mentioned before, steering arm locations would cause all sorts of issues with bumpsteer. Further still, even if you were to get the front end to align, your drums would also be upside down. You would have to bleed the wheel cylinders with the backing plates right side up so the bleeder stays at the top then install them back upside down. If you want dropped spindles, just convert to discs. Otherwise just cut the springs or install lowered coils and deal with it.
