I have found a few old drop tanks or belly tanks. They have never been on a plane. I dont know which plane there are for but i will get pixs soon. What is the going price for these tanks? I know there are from an older plane, and they are all aluminum. What should i offer the guy for one of them?

I have seen them go anywhere from $300 for a smaller tank to $24,000 for a p38 tank which recently sold on Ebay.

HOTDAMN just bought two FJ-4b tanks from the mid-50's for $50 each! Pretty cool score. I am hoping he whips them into a twin tank V8-60 powered streamliner for Maxton.

In some parts of the country you could probably trade a 250 gal stove oil barrel for one and have the guy who has been using it for an oil barrel happy to trade. In other places they may be sky high due to people looking for them.

I wouldn't make the first offer but ask what he would sell them for or trade for with a pocket full of cash when I asked.

13 feet long is a very good start. If they are aluminum, with a sandwiched split-seam down the side it is an even better sign. If the side are really wavy around the center section as a result of the baffles, then you have scored!!!
The ribs (waves) are the giveaway that is it a P38. That is what everyone is looking for.

  13. Do a search here for P-38 and study the photos in the threads. Having a little knowledge is a mighty thing.

There are alot of different style of tanks, Don't just go by the seams or any waves in the body, you have to know the sizes, body styles ect. Check with Bobby Green, he is the go to guy when it comes to belly tanks. Good Luck
