hey guys, it seems that i have pretty much built this whole hot rod (first one) from HAMB members parts for sale, a million searches on the HAMB for ideas and answeres and a couple of swap meets. this has been one of the most enjoyable projects i have done. i am getting close to that first around the block drive. need some help with sensors. way back i bought some Daytona instrument gauges, the 4 in 1 kind. they are electric, not mechanical and i have built my dash around them. so for now i will be using them. question 1 what electric sensor for oil pressure? question 2 what electric sensor for water temp? question 3 what kind or part number sensor (not sure what its called) do i need to controll my electric fan by tempature? engine runs right on at 190 degrees. question 4 do those Mr Gasket radiator caps with temp gauge built in work decently? i want some type of mechanical back up on the water temp, and will have a mechanical oil gauge on or near the engine. question 5 not related to above questions but its the last one. untill i have everything sorted out and running top notch i will be using a electric choke Holley carb. its a new carb and seems to run pretty good. i dont feel like i really need a choke, but Holley states that NOT hooking up the power wire is an option. what gives? if i dont hook up the choke, does this create other issues, or what? i have searched every where and cant find any info. thanks everyone. pkj
didn't the gauges come with the senders? they should have. you need senders to match the gauges. Painless and others sell a fan switch and relay kit that sense engine temp and turn the fan on/off automatically ...there are a couple different temp settings to choose from
You will need the sensors made for those gauges. Their are several vendors that sell a fan sensor kit that is temperature activated. If you don't hook up the choke I'm pretty sure the choke will stay closed and you'll run rich. If you don't hook up power to the choke then just loosen the 3 set screws on the choke cover and rotate the cover so the choke plate in the air horn is fully open....then tighten down the choke set screws.
Painless Performance kit # 30102 on at 200 off at 185, # 30103 on at 185 off at 170, # 30104 is adjustable temperature http://www.painlessperformance.com/webcatalog/Keywordsearch.php?partsearch=fan+relay&Submit=Search
thanks for the info. like a fool i bought the gauges without asking the right questions. did not receive any sensors. Daytona is out of bussiness. they look just like the dolphin gauges, but they cant tell me anything. someone had said regular stock sensors would work. stock out of what is the question i guess. i really hate to buy another set of gauges at this point. with out the positive wire hooked up on the Holley the choke blade stays open and runs good. it just seems to idle a little higher than i think it should. could be the cam. its a solid muscle car grind by Comp 12-107-3. it says cs replacement for 3849346. i dont know where its suppose to idle at, or sound like. i dont have the tach wired yet, but sounds like 12-1400 RPM. hold right at 14 pounds vacuum. not very much lope, but its 408CI. any thoughts on the radiator cap with built in gauge? thanks. pkj
