Big lock and alarm so someone won't "clean it" for you.

When you do the electrical make sure you put in a big enough panel to run 220 volt stuff.

My shop is full so I bought a 10'x20' canopy from Northern Tool for on sale for $90 and set it up out front. Such a temporary thing will force me to finish this project quickly. I could stand the 18" of rain in the last 2 months, but the 1/2" mat of hickory seed strings was too much.

  8. Nice little garage you have there! Stick your car in there and plan your storage around where it sits, allowing for room to work. Nothing ruins your day quite like NOT having the room to do what you need to.

Nice! congrats on the shop. When I moved into my house I wanted to fill in the pool and put my shop there and keep the cement carport/driveway where it was. Wife said no so I put the shop where the back parking area was.

I am now trying to get everything out of it to seal the floor. I am adding more lighting and cooling/heating.

The two small roll up doors in the back I want to replace with one 20' roll up door and I want to replace the one regular door with one of the smaller roll ups so that I can pull through the garage.

If I had planned it out better I would have done all of this before filling the shop up with all my crap!

Here is a pic from the alley.

First thing to do is plan where and how to put an addition on as no matter the size it won't be big enough after 6months...................GUARANTEED!!:D:D!!!!

  11. I built my garage in 2002. It is 24'X30', but my family thinks when you open the walk thru door it is only 5' deep. I spend more time moving crap then working in it.

    If that's not the truth!!!

I built mine about 4 years ago 24x36. After moving everything over from my 1 car. Had all the room in the world. So I started buying tools...

Press, bridgeport, welders, tool boxes, rolling cabinets, bead roller, 3 tier shelf to sort my projects, roll around table and carts, benders, sheetmetal brake. Next thing i know i barely have enough room for 2 cars. Have to unpile stuff from one and put it on the other to work on it. Next time i build a garage no matter how big. /make sure you build 2 so you can use one for storage!

As far as breaking it in...? Personalize it! I put old signs, hot rod memorabilia, old fast food ad posters, funny signs, pictures. Even found an old gas station air pump sign and plumbed the shop for air as well as one through the outside wall for easy access. Installed some cameras that record to a hard drive on my pc too.

I would have had more room but i framed off a 10x10 area for an office w/ internet, cable, beer fridge, coffee machine and wired up a stereo system with speakers through out. Ran all the lights i could fit in there not a shadow in the place.

Congrats though! Its always nice to have your own personal space to do whatever you want!

I've cleaned it up a quite a bit. (beleive it or not)

The are behind the office is where my welders, welding, table, and bridgeport are. There's roughly enough room for 2 cars with room to work around them in there

Let your neighbors know that it is a HOT ROD shop, not a garage for the Beamer. Grab the hose, water down the pad in front of the door and do a huge smokey burnout(use old tires!!!)... That's what my dad & I have done :) Oh, and if you have headers, uncork them just for the added flavor. ;) :D

Oh, and congratulations on the garage!!!

  20. Dude, congratulations. That is an awesome thing.
"My first garage" and "My first Piece of Ass" rank side by side as a couple of the best moments in my life.
That is important, Man. Getting a garage... that's like a Priest getting his own Church!

    Enjoy it!
