just had this video forwarded to me, never tried to post one like this on here so i hope it works. there are a bunch of guys from southern Indiana(bloomfield) in here including my brothers father-in law.no sound but very cool. also some vintage sports car action at end of vid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KskXlZIczxM
i'm not sure.part of it i think was an old airport. i sent a PM to fellow HAMBer DON WOW who lives in that area, hopefully he can fill in some blanks for us.alot of the guys in that video are hot rod royalty in the area where i grew up(so.indiana).
That is some pretty cool footage. And the dragstrip is actually an airport and yes it still does exist. They have a car show and drag race over there now.....I think this year will be the 3rd year for it.....That old strip has a lot of history..... Here is a link that tells about Gene Moody's D/G '55 and Dale Moody/Sam Jones C/GS '37 Coupe. Both cars were very successfull at the US Nationals in the early and mid 60's. http://www.etraceway.com/Jones moody.htm
Fantastic footage... Thanks so much for sharing it!!!!! I have photos from the 1955 World Series of Drag Racing at Lawrenceville that I will be scanning and posting at a later date.
thanks for the link! my dad went to bloomfield high school back in the mid 50's and used to run in some of the same circles as these guys.he'll get a real kick outta this.
Tell your dad that Sam and Dale are still around......Sam is still building engines.....His shop is about a mile from my house....I can hear the dyno pulls on a good day......Dale still has a shop up town and is at work everyday.....Gene p***ed a couple of years ago.
are these pis something that you have acquired or were you there back in the day?any track history would be appreciated.
The strip was on a WWII airstrip that still exists today. There has been a show held there the past couple of years which I believe includes drag racing of some sort. I can get more details if anyone is interested.
.Thanks for sharing the great pictures and link. There is a world of History stored away on this site and that's one of the great things about it and I really like all the old footage.
They are pics that my Dad took back in the day... He's still around, but at 77 years old, his memory gets just a tad fuzzy at times.... I'm still sorting what pics came from where and when from his old stash of photos. BTW.... Did you catch Dad's photos from the '57 World Series at Cordova that I posted a couple weeks ago???
just received a link to a second video from same year and track, features art arsonse's green monster.check out the sweet pair of gams about 6:15 into video!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPC0N-QMm2M
Wow, those 55 Chevys were totally dominating the Fords. Not that I'm surprised to see it but it's cool to see it in vintage films.
