Hey guys and gals of the HAMB, Its been a week since my last confession. Around two years ago now I was told to check out craigslist because there was a 1930 buick for sale for a reasonable price, within about an hour of seeing the ad, I had called the owner and aranged to come and look at the car. That weekend I took the drive out to Marysville, saw the car, and went home with a new project. It turned out not to be a buick but rather an off spring of the company called a Marquette. Enough history, Its been two years and I had done nothing on the car except for taking the body apart, well...I was reciently enspired to start work on the car, so like the four HAMB fathers before me I will post the build here. So, with all introduction out of the way allow me to get down to business.

The Marquette as it lay when arrived to see it.

I have a Marquette cowl in my shed. I got it for $15 and thought it could be the beginning of something. That Caddy looks like it was made to go there :D

    Good work

  8. It would be nice if you could find a set of these:1931 Buick Marquette wheels.6x14 on an early Ford bolt circle. These were NOS(original chrome plated spokes with striped rim)but the hubcaps were copper plated.Only set I've ever seen.Supposedly they were made by General Tire Co.to promote their(then)new balloon style tire.Didn't go over very big so the idea was dropped until the mid-50's.

I like your car,.... but my '33 Buick would have liked to go home with you,.... and it already has a Buick 455/TH400,..... Looks like it will go back in the barn for another decade or two,.......

A companion to the Buick line, like the Pontiac Oakland and Cadillac LaSalle, the Marquette was produced and sold for one model year only, 1930, and had a proudction total of 35,007 units.

    Awesome project!

You should go with some large, 17" or even bigger steel wheels and the stock suspension lowered a bit but not much..

    Just my stupid opinion :D

Hey guys, sorry it has taken so long to update, but I couldn't get the pictures off my camera. But heres what I've done so far.

I got a set of 1929 chevy coupe rear courters, roof, and doors from The Bearded Bullet, and am trying to decide weather to build a roadster or a coupe. I'm really leaning in the roadster direction.

I just set the parts up around the frame to get an idea of size, and started cleaning up and removing all of the non ecential accessorys on the engine.

I should have more to update on thursday.

I started channeling the cowl and keep on striping off more paint.

Thanks. I'm having trouble deciding which way to go. On sunny nice days, I want a roadster, and on ugly rainy days a coup would be nice.

  23. I'm really glad someone got that car. I went and saw it (apparently before you did). It just wasn't what the wife was looking for, but it had soooooo much potential. Keep the pics coming. Bud

Hey guys heres a bunch more stuff.

The factory firewall cut out wasn't even close to fitting over the trans so some cutting was in order.

after the cut, and once i put in the trans mount about a half inch lower, the fire wall will sit right on the back of the motor. forgive the poor lighting.

with the cowl cut I could be sure that the engine will fit under the hood without any modification. That gave me my overall distance from the back of the cowl to the grill, so I started cutting and tac welding body panels together.

As for the roadster or coupe question, my sawzall made up my mind for me.

and with some wheels and the hood for a sort of mok up. I'll need to add about three inches to the rear quarter, to get the praportions I want.

and with the start of my windshield.

I also went to the monroe swap meet and scored the dash and instrument cluster I'm going to use. Its out of a 49 pontiac silver streek.

    more tuesday.

Where are you at on the build. I have a '30 Marquette and could use some parts if you don't need them.
