i have a 54 chevy m2 up front, bags in the rear

700r4 w/stage2 kit

this car is going to get some serious miles i am building it for a daily driver but i will also like to have some fun and haul some *** once in a while

here it goes i have a 327 with camel hump heads and a set of ramhorn exhaust , and this cam i bought a while ago https://shop.enginekits.com/osb/itemdetails.cfm?ID=103
is this going to give me some good power while not idling to bad?
or is it safe to bump it up a bit and maybe get a bigger cam??

i will eventually run tri-power

i wouldnt mind idling like this, what cam u guys think he has??

that cam will prolly sound pretty decent and work well for a driver car. not too wild or racy, just a good street cam

Well I would suggest playing with one of the Performance Trends Engine ****yzer programs (they have free demos). From the small amount I've learned a couple rules or thumb are larger lobe separation = smoother idle (>110 for good idle street car), longer duration = more power but rougher idle... I am by no means an expert on cam profiles but I would venture to say that yours should do the trick.

I would go with the Elgin cam <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD>E903P</TD></TR><TR><TD>Elgin .447/.447 Lift - 222°/222° @ .050 It is the same as the 327/350 hp cam from the 60's. Has a slight lope at idle and properly tuned will get you decent mileage on the highway, and a nice kick in the pants around town. Used the same spec cam in my son's 61 Chev p/u with 600 holley, Weiand manifold and headers, turbo 350 trans and 3:55 gears. Made for a fun and reliable ride with a lot of get up and go....</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Hi there... I love 327! I have one in my 56 chevy. I just love the sound, the quick response performance, and the never ending power band, it revs like there´s no tomorrow, haha.
It´s got Speed Pro L2166 NF 030 Pop ups, 2.02 Camel Humps, a 234°/244°@.050 cam ( which is a Edelbrock Performer RPM) also Performer RPM intake manifold and 600 cfm carb. Here´s a video, since then I changed the exhaust system for better ground clearance, but the sound´s still the same
here´s the link.

The engine was still could and was on choke, that´s why the idle is higher than usual.

The old performer rpm upper kit is great and very good on power sounds lopy too. Ive seen this in action in a 350 with camel humps on a very daily transportation 78 Elky. ran very fast! Elgin cams sells an indentical camshaft to the performer rpm cam for less money too.

Sig erson had a good adv. 292h cam if theyre still around 214 duration .449 lift 110 nice idle, ran very well, had good power daily driver 3.08 gears stock stall 68 Elky in high school.

Comps 275DEH was the cool thing too for street until the 268h extreme series came out. I think you can find articles about those cams all day long.

The old 350Hp/327 cam ended up being the stock factory cam for many years until the EPA got involved in cars.

I was thinkin about that e903p elgin 222/222@ .50 just a step p from what I got
What do u think the HP difference would be
214/224@.50. Vs. 222/222@.50
I need to decide which one I these will do the trick
Maybe the smaller one for slightly better mpg??

split duration cam lobe seperation is probably around 112 or more

222 222 is probably 110 rowdy hits harder

214/224 is more power across the power band

15. 327/350 cam sounds awesome! Just like a muscle car should, and it runs good!

If it were me, I'd probably go with the cam you have now. The e903p (same specs as the 327/350hp "151" cam) is big enough that it is a little soggy feeling just off idle in a car with an automatic and is just a little tempermental to get to idle with a stock converter. You could go with a little higher than stock stall coverter and it would probably work fine, but then you could give up a little gas milage.

BTW Herdez, I'm pretty sure the 222/222 cam is ground on 114 lobe seperation.

I would like to get decent mpgs
But I also want to get that kick in the pants feeling when I step into it..
This is going to be a hard decision....

If I did go with that e903p
350hp/327 cam I was thinkin about getting a 2200-2400 stall converter

Any guesses on mpg???

the 327/350 that is recomended on here is a very good setup. the 67 vette stock setup ran strong. i liked the early vette 327/365 motor a bit better because with the solid lifter setup it had a 7000+ rpm red line and was very street friendly. IMO the best all around street/race motor to come out of detroit .

No guesses on the milage, although I've seen older Corvettes get close to 20 on the highway.

You might price a lockup torque converter before you make up your mind on which cam to run.

The cam you have will probably work well. If you are looking at new cams, check out the lanati Voodoo cams. I have one but haven't run it yet. I was in a similar situation and it has come highly recomended by a few guys that build engines localy. Nice wide power band. But the cam dose have to match the rest of your set up.

I picked up the save very cam at the Pate Swap meet the other day. Told the guy I was looking for something comparible to the 350/327 cam. Good to know thats just what I ended up with. Figure it was a good deal at $40 new.

I think you will be happy with the cam you have. The 350hp cam or the old 140 trans-am cam are not a lot of fun with an automatic in an everyday driver.

The e903p is a great cam I just got the site to come up to see the specs and yes thats the same cam my 283 had before this last rebuild and a 30/30 in its place now. Great cam slight lobe very very street friendly motor ran 10 years strong daily driven.

I really think you will be very happy with the E903P cam . You will get good torque and that hot rod sound at idle . I will also be easy on the valve train too !
Let us know what you decide .

For a daily driver with ramshorn exhaust, I think you'll be happy with the cam you have.
