suggestion from a new guy..

Discussion in 'Questions & Suggestions' started by bloodyknucklehill, May 9, 2009.

  1. Hey guys(and gals), I had a cool suggestion.. I joined a little while ago and posted a little story in my intro about my dad and how i got into cars and one of the replies i got was a guy telling me he liked the story and wanted to hear another one.. so i told him another one.. my suggestion is how bout putting a message board on here where people can post stories from the old days... I think it would be a great way to preserve the stories and the tradition.. maybe teach us newer car nuts where we came from.. Any just a suggestion.. thanks

That is what the main "Hokey Ass Message Board " is for........

  3. I understand that but as i've scrolled through it i realized good car stories don't deserved to be coupled with "general BS" as the intro to the board calls it.. or do you not think they are important enough to give them their own venue?

post them on the main board and tag them as history. anyone doing a search by tag will find them. the hamb isn't going to become one of those sites with 200 sub-forums.

  5. Let's see.. i counted ten message boards so 10+1= 200.. seems right.. anyway forget about it.. It would seem suggestions aren't welcome on the suggestion board

First of all, thank you for your suggestion.
Suggestions are always welcome on the HAMB so don't confuse unwelcome with forget it won't happen.

Ryan - the website owner and moderators discuss suggestions on a regular basis and some time things are added here and there that are feesible over time without adding more directions.

So - may happen - may not.
Because someone didn't jump right on it - doesn't mean down the road it won't happen.
    May - or may not.

    Enjoy the HAMB !

ok, if it's that important to you, start a social group. you can gather all your story telling friends around a cozy fire and entertain each other back and forth to the wee hours. you do know about the social groups. don't tell me that in the 2 weeks you've been here, you haven't discovered the social groups?

so many newbies start off wanting to change the hamb to resemble a board they are more familiar to or they want the hamb to accept what has become known as a non-hamb friendly vehicle.
they spend all of a month here but right away want to suggest changes that require a ton more work for ryan and the moderators or muddy the very reason the board was started in the first place, to talk about traditional hotrods and customs.
and it's not that we collectively don't like VW's or musclecars or motorcycles, many of us even own a few ourselves and belong to other message boards where we can discuss them with like minded individuals. we come here and expect to talk about traditional hotrods and customs.

so now i've gone and hurt the feelings of another newbie. i'm sorry. yep, it's my fault. i might have a problem with this sense of entitlement people have embraced. the hamb is what it is, the best place anywhere to come to talk about traditional hotrods and customs.
do you find it unfamiliar or have a hard time navigating the hamb? spend some time learning the functions put in place to help. read the stickies. still having problems? ask a question here. want to talk about your camaro and the 20 inch wheels you're thinking about buying? find another site to discuss it. ever hear of the jockey journal or garage journal?

got a suggestion? it's probably been suggested before. it might be one of those where ryan says, i can do that, why didn't i think of it? more than likely not, so don't go off pouting when an idea of yours is shot down. and don't have the attitude, what's one more forum going to matter? or two? next thing you know, you'll have them texas boys wanting their own sub-forum because the florida guys have one and the fiberglass guys will want to split off from the t bucket guys and before long, there will be 200 forums.

ask not what the hamb can do for you, ask what you can do for the hamb.

I like the idea. I think the Social group is the way to go. Then you and anyone who joins the group (aptly named I hope) can put a link to the group in your signature line.

The problem with a bunch of child forums is that it makes spamming easier for the spammers and harder for the Mods to control. That's why the forums with many subforums are riddled with spam and the HAMB is not.

Start a Social Group, post your story on the main board and let everyone know about the group and it will be off and running.

We used to find where you lived and stole your car and beat the crap outta you just for joining... then the hazing began... things are pretty PC around here nowadays...
