Is there a manual gearbox conversion for the 53 Olds 303 engine.. ? Ive got a hankerin to build a G***er style rod based on this engine .. I have the auto trans and by all reports it works well enough but i dont know squat about the box... and if it went BANG where i would get a replacement.. ( check my location) Im planning the project round a 34ish Austin Ruby body just for a bit of FUN.. Its not to be a race car just a looker.. P.S any pics of similar brit bodied g***ers would be greatly appreciated ..
do you have a bunch of extra cash laying around? all that stuff is hard to find, and expensive to boot.'53 is a good year for the dual-range hydra-matic.i'm running a slant pan in my '54,and my brother has a '53 303 and hydro in his '51 hudson.try top find the original band adjusting tools, change out the fluid regularly, and make sure you have the throttle and kickdown linkage adjusted correctly, and you'll be fine.a bone stock hydro will chirp 2nd gear at full throttle,a fully modified hydro set up for drag racing will get rubber in all 4 gears.read up on them here; www.rodnkustom.com/rocketeers/hydramatic/index.html i love'em -george
Have you checked Tanson Enterprises give them a call there web site has no info but its www.forwhatyouneed.com I emailed em and there sending me a free catalog. But I know they do ****** work and conversions.

Yorg. Thanks for the info Saved the page and will get into it later tonight .. I heard that the old box was a strong unit but wondered about its reliability now it gettin on ... Thanks again..
1950 olds manual with a hurst magic shifter rocks! or caddy 1950-1953/1954 manual (same different tailshaft though) these ******s are the SAME as lasalle/caddy used in the 40ies.. bolt on to your olds 303 without modification
you could start with the auto, and move to the manual when you get the parts togather if you choose.i think a manual would be fun in a car like that.the nice thing is the crank already uses a pilot with the auto soo you can just slip the manual in if you feel like it later.thats if the auto is in decent shape.then your project wouldnt bog down trying to find hard to find parts.you may find a complete setup, but it might be cheaper buying the stuff seperatly, and i didnt think wilcap offers anything anymore either for the early olds unless they updated recently. eric
