Who else meet Murphy !!???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by primerkid, Sep 22, 2004.

  1. Okey, today is Tuesday and I'm still trying to calm down…..but atleast I'm ready to talk (write) about it………

Did someone else but me, meet Murphy this past weekend!? You know the friendly guy with his own law that he named!!!!!? I know I sure did and screwed up pretty bad…..could have been worse….yes absolutely…but still this was not included in my plans for this car...never is when you meet Murphy..oh well .. maybe the car is cursed !? [IMG]

So what happened ??? Well I was doin 55 in the '53 Bel Air when all of a sudden my hood must have decided to pop open…needed some fresh air maybe...(anyone else that has experienced a hood latch or hood that has its own life)...oh yes…BINGO exactly what I needed ! I didn't see zilch, nada, nothing but the hood, the whole hood and nothing but the hood...out the windshield...nice view…(I like that colour..in my face) I guess people in traffic around me were as surprised as I was..or they got a good laugh..I sure didn't.. Well at least nothing else happened, I wasn't hit by another car, trying to get out of traffic.

About the damage...well first off..sorry guys, no pictures. Left and right front fenders were damaged, where the hood hinges are attached from inside, then both hood peaks towards door/fender upper corner are heavily bent and finally a dent in the middle of the "flat" hood surface. All fixable, but as said, this was not planned...

I hope you guys had a better weekend, than this one turned out to be for me..or..did you meet Murphy !??? [IMG] [IMG]

Yikes Sven! That's some scarry stuff, bad ju ju. I'm glad you're ok and there isn't too much damage to the car.

I know how scary that can be. Shortly after I bought my '48 Ford, when I still lived in the bay area, I was driving on the freeway and wham!, all of the sudden there is this big black thing blocking my winshield [IMG]. I stuck my head out the window like Ace Ventura and got her over to the side of the road all right. I was ok and there was hardly any damage to the car, but it still scared the hell outta me.

Had a cam chain break on my bike at about 80mph between LA and San Diego back when I was in the Navy. Locked up the rear wheel instantly. Somehow I managed to skid it all the way from the fast lane to the shoulder on the other side of the road without dumping it or getting flattened by traffic.
No friggin idea how I pulled that off. Somebody upstairs must have been driving.

New cam chain, rear tire (It Blew), and underwear and I was back on the road.

Didn't the hood thing happen to Nads (or somebody here) too?

  10. Mike, I never saw any damage to your '48 hood, so in that respect I guess you did better than I did [IMG] my hood clearly shows what I've been up to. Glad you made it to the side of the road...Ace Ventura style.... [IMG]

Yes I met Murphy too. I was doing 65 in the '54 when all of a sudden...bang!!!!
Took out my widshield too. I just ripped the hood off and left it in the median of the interstate. The car kinda looked cool hoodless.

I had it happen one time before in my '57 Chevy. As I was attempting to get a hold of the situation a dude from the Bible Seminary stopped by to help. His help was appreciated but his spiel was most unwelcome at that stressful time.

    Good luck.

I meet him several years ago also. Was taking the girlfriend home in the 56 chevy and meet a semi. The hood came up and wrapped over the windshield and the hood bird spikes came right thru the roof caving it in. Scary shit happened about midnight on a highway outside of town.

  13. SmokinJoe, Nads and gaspumps.....I guess we're all lucky ... said before, but it could have been much more worse ..... Nads, I agree with you....its not the best moment where you wanna talk your mouth dry....I had some friends in my car...and all of a sudden I was very quite...at least for a while..... [IMG]

I'm hoping this coming weekend will be easy on me...by the way, I will be driving without hood..... [IMG]
