The top of my Pete & Jakes steering arms are rubbing on the bottom of my axle, I have ground some off the top of the steering arms. But I dont want to keep grinding them down too much. Should I grind a little off the bottom of the axle? Setup: - Non droped Ford stock axle - Mr Roadster Spindles - Pete & Jakes Dropped Arms - Magnum Brake Kit
What ya need is a new set up: Stock Ford Spindles With Stock Ford arms Lincoln or Ford Juice Drum Brakes Then your set up will bolt on with NO problems.
Should be plenty of material on the axle to grind some clearance. You DEFINITELY don't want an issue with the two items touching and binding.
Kinda defeats the purpose...Jake designed those arms to save spindles and prevent grinding. Pete even agreed. (They started out as a "hot rod repair" facility.) Grinding axles is hardly the right fix. Stock spindles with stock arms is the best bet.
Seems like anytime you mix and match, which is what hotrodding is, you have stuff not fitting. I'd try to do something with the arms, either change them, or bend them if they are made of an appropriate material. An easy sell on ebay if you need to, and lots of other bolt on arms are out there, probably Mr. Roadster will work with their spindles, unless you have a batch made in China...
Wait a minute something is not being explained correctly. There is no way P&J steering arms installed correctly can rub on a stock undropped axle. . Post a picture of what you are doing and you will get a better answer to your situation.
I get some up this afternoon.... There not rubbing to where it wont turn, but I'm just a little concerned once all the vehicle's weight and with some use the issue may get bigger...!
