Hello HAMBers, Yesterday I came across this van. I've lived in this house for a year now and I didn't notice it 10 minutes up the dirt road. I know the guy who owns it, and my dad works with his wife. Real nice old guy. I think I can get a pretty good deal, or a free project here. Sure it needs a lot of work but this is the first decent car I've come across in years. I'm up to the task. I saved pretty much every picture of this kind of van I could last night, looking for inspiration. I'm not too sure on the exact year either, perhaps one of you guys could clarify that for me? I took a whole bunch of pictures. Sorry the resolution is low, I'm on a bad connection. It took forever to upload. Any comments, suggestions, ideas, whatever? Thanks, Denver.
It'd be between 1960 and 67. I could only get the first picture to enlarge then the others wouldn't open. It should have a metal VIN tag on the front left door jamb. Let us know what that says and we can decode what it is. An extended length window van anyways, should have Falcon emblems on the early ones which were called Falcon club Wagon. It probably had 3 rows of seats in the back.
This had no seats, and the badge on it says "Econoline Supervan". It's dark out now, but tomorrow I will check out that VIN number.
I'll revise my year guess to 65-67 then. They didn't change much from year to year. There are two different styles of 6 cylinders used, the small one like Falcons have 144-170-200 and the big one which is a 240.
I'm guessing 65-66. Cant tell from your pics.. Is the heater a box on the floor?, are the taillights round or elongated? It is the stretch version. 65 was the start of that. No padded dash indicates pre 67 I think. I've got production numbers from each year if you need em. Lots of folks on here dont undertand the econoline fetish, but usually they've never owned one..Econolines are like crack to some of us.
Hey Chaz, Thanks for the info! I think it's a beautiful van. And they definately look sick when they're restored or done up. There was something on the floor behind the p***enger seat that could have been the heater box. It looked out of place though, I don't even remember if it was connected to anything. The taillights are elongated. here's a pic:
Those tailights were used in 65-66. 67 had a backup light molded into the lens.Pre 65 are round lights. I also can see by looking closely at your pics that the floor box heater has the delete. The heater ducts air from the rider side headlight grille. That also indicates 65-66. Some of those had 4 speed trannies (Daggenham) and nine inch ford rears.
Good start and fun project. Love working on the engine while sitting in the drivers seat! If you ever see the old willy wonka movie, notice that an 60s econoline pulls up to the White House to deliver Wonka bars! Nice catch pal!
Wow, thanks guys! I didn't know about the willy wonka thing. I'll have to check it out. I'm not sure why the pictures aren't working for you Chaz... They work fine for me and other people.. Weird. If there's a picture you want to see fullsize let me know! I'll gladly upload it! Thanks again for your help so far.
one of the mechanics where I worked had "the New Kid"jump in and crank over a brand new motor in one of these his reaction was funny as hell once the plastic plugs in the spark plug holes started popping with him sitting right there !
