ok im having electric problems on my 54 chevy...its a 6v system and im not getting power to anything...i had put a new 6v battery in a new voltage regulator that i polarized...new alternator and coil...could my starter selenoid be bad? any tips?
Stop replacing parts and get cheap-o voltmeter at Sears. Start at the battery checking voltage across both posts, then leave the black lead on the neg post... take the red lead and check the positive cable at the starter - get the drift? Good luck... stay "positive" (sorry, couldn't help myself).
I hate that term polarized , I've fried my share of voltage regulators doin that ... just wire up the next one then check the charging rate ...do you have a ammeter gauge ? everything goes through that gauge or shunt first, you could bypass the gauge putting both wires on one terminal
Yes, you don't polarize an alternator, it is already polarized by the internal diodes. Do you have a generator or an alternator?
LIKE HE SAID.. check the power at the end of the cable.. also check the pos. off the battery against the engine block to see if you have a ground.. (red lead from volt meter to pos,, black to block) if so.. check the ground to the body.. next go to the amp guage.. it should have power on both sides.. if it is fried.. you may not have anything past it.. if that is the case.. jump across the back and see if things come to life.. remember.. electricity follows the path set for it.. walk the same path.. somewhere along the line you will find where the voltage ends, grasshopper...
