Can anyone recommend some good engine rebuilders in Southern California? Need to rebuild a '64 283 SBC for my '31 Model a Coupe. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
Do you need a rebuilder or a machinist? Yo at Contemporary Machine does good work if you can ***emble it. 16131 Gothard St # D Huntington Beach, CA 92647 (714) 842-3144
Check out CFO Enterprises in Lancaster Ca. Talk to Erik. If you want to go fast, hes your guy. 661-942-3364 Cheers, Kevo
Find a good machinist, get the machine work done. ***emble it yourself. No one will do as well as you in checking things over making sure it's squared away. Builders are constrained by time and you're not. You can do it with a regular tool box of common tools, a torque wrench, Plasti-Gage and Feeler gauge. There's a lot of help and mentoring here on the HAMB, take advantage of it.
eddings in san fernando or vellios in lawndale - i've had them do two motors they're cool guys if you've got time check out boxwrench 8 point rebuild dvd and do it yourself. the place in the video is eddings i think
hollywood machine in pasadena has a pretty good rep 626 449 7060. i agree you should do the ***embly yourself, though. no builder, no matter how good and how committed, will ever care about your motor as much as you do.
Engine Supply in Santa Ana is probably the best place on the west coast if not the country to do the machine work and ***emble it if you don't want to. Their prices are great and the level of experience in there is scary. Ask for Mike, the owner and he will get you going in the right direction. It is a small shop tucked away in an industrial park, but they are well known and basically all the big names in the racing and resto industry know who they are, and they happen to be my personal friends, so you should go there You won't be sorry. Mike
Rod Phillips at Auto Dynamic Balancing in Baldwin Park, California. Been around forever, used to be the hot spot when the original Irwindale Raceway ran. Always got a nice, smooth running motor done by them. They can ***emble also I think, but I do all my ***embly myself. (So if it brakes, I don't have to piss someone else off by yelling, just myself...lol)
i've used Bob McKray @ Bob McKray Performance in mission viejo for flatheads before. he used to do the machining work for hot heads before they moved (a while ago), has hemi parts galore......but it's a one man show, so it's not a real quick turn around. http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/Bob.McKray.Performance.949-458-7087 also found this......looks like he did the head work.... http://www.streetrodderweb.com/features/0802sr_creighton_helms_1936_ford_roadster/index1.html
Bob Medina, la/lb harbor area, Other side of Long Beach, drag race experience, works out of his garage, transmissions and rear ends as well. 310-830-2098. Does a lot of work for local clubs and is a nice guy, done 4 of my engines and 2 of my ******'s
Valley Engine and Machine in Fountain Valley. Rick is one of the best, does everything from Model A's to Ferrari V12. I have used him since the 80's and you won't be disappointed. http://www.valleyengine.com/
