Is there a decent place to get steel in DFW area... like rectangular tubing, sheet metal, etc? Specifically, I'm looking for a "metal-by-the-foot" kind of place where I don't hafta buy 20 feet at a time when I only need 3 feet. It would be extra-good if there was a place on the eastern end of the metroplex.

  4. I use the Metal Supermarket
It's between 20 and 30 on the 820 in Ft.Worth, might be a little far for you.

If they are open on weekends it might be worth the drive.

First off I would not go to Smiley's if they gave me the metal. I went there numerous times while working on the Coupe and those goobers up there are something else. If you don't go roundy roundy they don't understand. There is some cool stuff up there but they are a bunch of Dicks. I got all my metal and steel from American Iron and Metal for the coupe down off Good Latimer. If your going down 175 East to Downtown Dallas as soon as you exit off to Good Latimer is is on your right side about a 1/4 mile up rite past the railroad tracks.. Can't miss it. There is this black guy in there that is into cars and he is real cool. There is alot of scrap or seconds out in the yard and you can rumage through what you want and they charge you buy the pound. Or you can go inside and pick out new stuff and they will cut it to length and charge you that way. No sense in driving to Ft. Worth for metal. They Really helped me out cause I did not need a hole lot. Bought all my metal there and had no problems. Will also cut it for you to fit in you truck or car. I tried Garland steel but but waited in line forever and the guys seem pretty rude cause I wsas just getting small stuff. Anyways there # is 214-428-3151. Also if your going south on I-45 at Wilmer ther is Eagle steel. They are your cheapest metal dealer around here if your buying bulk. But they also have everything and all different sizes. There is also others but these are the two I go to. What are you working on anyways??

Right now I am just beefing up that Harbor Freight bead roller. I have pretty much used up all the scrap pieces I had around the shop, so I'm needing to get some more resources lined up. That American Iron & Metal place sounds like what I was looking for... a place to pilfer thru scraps!

Thanks everybody for all your help! I'm still kind of an out-of-towner and HAMBers have really helped me find a lot of what I have needed! THANKS!

Norton is top notch. I use them a bunch.

Westex is pretty good, but the guys in the yard no saavy English, so communication is difficult. Ask for Angela in the office, she will see you get good service.

Brother Bob, you should use Phillips in Weatherford. I just got finished with a huge fence job. Their prices were half what Norton wanted, because Phillips steel is stored outside and gets surface rust while Norton's is stored inside dry building.

You guys quit telling everyone about Westtex. All the good stuff will be gone.

I love going to Westtex if I got time to dig around. Got most of my stuff there.Always seemed pretty cheap but the last time I went metal prices had increased quiet a bit. Still cheaper than buying new stuff.

My new stuff I bought at the metal supermarket Flt-blk posted about. They are always pretty nice.

Last week I went to get 3 ft. of DOM at Metal Supermatrket and the stick they pulled out was 4 ft. They told me they would discount it if I would take it all. I figured I'd use the extra ft. for something.
