What do you guys do with old parts? I just completed a disc brake swap on the front of my '58 Edsel and can't get myself to just toss the old parts. Anyone want them or should I just toss 'em?
I just keep them or take them to a swap. Funny what has some value. My 48 Ford heater core was leaking badly so I bought a universal core and adapted the Ford cover to it. I couldn't bring myself to throw the old one out. Kept checking the hamb wanted adds and guess what. Someone wanted it. Think I got a check for $50 and after shipping I pocketed maybe $30. Don't ask me what he wanted it for. Same thing with the tie rod arms I cut off to install dropped ones. Sold them too. Didn't ask.
I try to sell them first. If they don't sell after a few tries, I give them away to a Craigslist "freetard". If I can't give them away,,,, garbage or recyler.
I dunno about Edsel brakes, but the ones I took off my 57 Ford wagon were the 2" variety which is what the T-birds used. I sold mine to a T-bird guy. He was happy because he got to use correct date code parts on his resto, and I was happy to be rid of the heavy things. If your Edsel has 2" wide drums, you might want to look into doing the same. If not, I'm sure there is some Ford or Edsel guy who can use them. Place an ad here or on the Ford Barn.
Small stuff I'll find a spot for, larger stuff is a bit of an issue. My garage is tiny enough as it is. I just tossed out the Pinto buckets that were in my Essex when I bought it. They were too big to store in the garage.
Got a box by the back door of the shop full of little used parts... The bigger used stuff gets stored in the parts car. Someday [or when the city bitches] it will all go to the scrap guy... Good stuff goes on craigslist or eBay... It's hard to throw away anything and it shows...
I scrapped all my 58 Edsel front brakes after doing the mod , you jut cant keep everything. I love your wagon, I thought you were selling awhile back. edsel
You guys get rid of stuff?? Why??!! Keep it, you may find a use or someone else looking for them, then you got yourself a swap or a sale! Doc. PS, No one would just throw these things away would they? Surely not?
I put them in the "trade bait" pile for a while but normally end up giving them to a restorer type person if I can't imagine another use for them. I've given away a ton of CJ2A parts, hopefully Carma (automotive version of Karma) will bring it back around to me.
I keep everything and I keep saying I gotta load up the trailer and take it the swap meet. My wife calls me a hoarder. If you are out of space buy a trash can with a lid that seals good, throw stuff in it and keep the lid sealed good and you can store out back somewhere. When it's full take it to the swap meet and make a few bucks and meet some people.
