Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bob K, Jan 15, 2007.

  1. Its an acronym from the military from way back. Kinda goes with sayings like SNAFU.
    Look it up-haha.

I looked it up and know what it means but didn't realize it's an acronym. The word itself sounded kinda familiar. However, thanks for the lesson D. ! Verdammt nochmal bis zur Unendlichkeit enstellt.

Your being too tough on the Merc and a fellow HAMBer. The pictures that I've seen
and the ones that I posted don't do the sled justice. When I saw it in Wichita (1984?)
it blew everyone away. I would love to see the Merc back on the street, I would restore
    it to its 80s glory.

Good luck tazhog with your search

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

The early 80's was not a good time for customs, period. There was no KKOA, Rod & Custom, Paso, nuthin'.....just Camaros, Camaros, Nova, Camaros.....most with huge wheels sticking out the fenders (all 4 fenders). It was cool to see a custom of any form or fashion....anywhere. The KKOA started and suddenly there was a place for the few, and then others noticed and then there were more....finally. That Merc was one of the first back in circulation....whether you like the particular car or not....it was a breath of fresh air. I hope it turns back up! :D

  6. What Mick said. I remember that car fromsome magazine shot in the 80s.......blew folks away!

You know Muttley picking on my Merc I never said how ugly your mother was! Opps now I did!! Yes , Jack G. worked for me , and we worked together and painted a lot of stuff together!!(great guy) and helped me with the layout of the flames and we both painted the flames and I pinstriped it and cleared and buffed it! Built the car in 1979 didn't like it all chrome yellow so the next winter I put the tilt front end on because the hood kept chipping the paint! on the rear corners (every Merc owners night mare) And added the sunroof and flamed it!

I went to the first Merc Duece reunion in 79,plus KKOA Leadsleds several times in the early/mid 80s..To those who've never seen that car in person, yeah, the chop is severe, but well done, and the lights were,to me,cool as ****..never cared for the color, but that car made a helluva impression whenever it rolled in...liked it then, like it still....

    LOL!!! Good one Brewsir!!

Yes, I like stuff that only Ray Charles would only like. Ha,ha, aahhhh!

I was at the Wichita show in a '65 Chevy van and after that weekend I lost interest
in my van. I had to have a Mercury. This Mercury was one of them that turned my
head and got me into the Kustoms. Stuckey's Merc was there and many others but
this Merc was always Kruzin the grounds and had some at***ude. Would I've done it
that way? No, but that dosn't mean its not kool.

Kan you imagine the sled painted hot rod black?? She would be mean!!

Still Kan't believe not one HAMBer knows where this Merc is parked.

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

Thanks Mickey glad you came over from the vans to the Kustoms !! The chop was wild and low but it was fun to drive ! Bob K. always got claustrophic in the back seat with is wife !! But it was built on a thousand dollar budget at the time !

This car was listed for sell on Ebay a few times in the last year , it didn't sell . I thought I saved a picture from the listing but can't find it . I remember the pictures looked like the car was on the docks ,, near shipping containers . I think it had a BB Chevy in it ? I don't think it was local ,, here in CA . I'll go through my pictures again and take another look for it . Anyone else see it on Ebay ?

oh the flat black one i am thinking about was featured in the gazzette or the yearly show coverage book.

  17. Ever find somebody's mail landed on the seats? Don't paint it blue, that's for sure.

The roof looks like it's decrowned in the middle, it doesn't look right, maybe because the chop is so low it makes the windows look a lot longer. The headlights aren't as bad as some are thinking, but a chopped Merc with all that work and a stock grille and bumper is kinda wierd.

I'm sure it's around somewhere, I'd set up one of those email notify things on eBay and watch what comes up.

I do so wish that could be done today. I love the car its not your cookie cutter merc. You look at ones that are done now a days they all have the same chop and body mods. The only thing that seperates them is the paint color and wheels. I dont care what any body says some of the customs from the late 70's early 80's are BOSS as hell.

You might be thinking of Tom Midolo's (sp?) black 49 coupe with flames on the bottom from NY. That thing is CHOPPPPPED. I believe the crown was extended by bringing the gl*** channels (windows/doors) down further as well. Insane.

i too remember that car from the early KKOA and MERC-DEUCE days. we were building trad style mercs and that car knocked us out because it was something we'd not seen before, or even thought of, for that matter. love it , or hate it, that merc always had a croud around it...when it wasn't crusin' the grounds. hope you find it.

Well I hate to bust your bubble ICEBOX !! But that pic you are showing was taken in Wisconsin when I owned it in 1979 and the rims were changed in 1981 because the screws holding on the Moon disc wore threw and changed to wires! Moved to Calif. in 1985 and Sold the car in 1993 in Calif. in divorce! Now thanks to Willeibill I can redew her as I bought a stocker and going to rebuilt it the same and have fun ! I'LL BE BACK!! As i don't want a belly ****on merc or cookie cutter!!!
