Smitty;s and Beer, I thank god almighty for Smitty's and Beer...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by GreenMonster48, May 13, 2009.

  1. I generally only like technical threads, but given the vast and infinite information on this board I usually end up getting drawn to the lesser 5% of **** that I can honestly hang with.

One thing hit me the other day though. I finally was financially stable enough to buy a full dual exhaust kit from Red's Headers and it wasn't just the slicing open of a package and sticking the sticker on my dented Snap-On box for me.

I had headers, but more importantly, Smithy's mufflers. It was a name of a product that had resonated with me through my Grandfather's and his pal's incredibly cool stories of the 50's, especially the early ventures of the New England hot rod/custom scene before the 265 Chevy, and before shaved door handles and rock & roll when the 3/4 race flathead, skirts, and square dances were the utmost in coolness.

So when I slid the blue gl***packs out of their plastic preservatives and held them in my hands, I held a lot. I held the past, I held something in my hand that far surp***ed the goal of duals, then Cherry Bombs, then flowmasters, then Magnaflows. As it stated right on the god damned muffler I held Smithy's : An original...cast right in the tube, and I felt lucky as hell to be right in the ne**us of American hot rodding, nostalgia, and practicality as I held the original in my hands and touched the face of the hot rod goddess which so few generations beyond mine would ever feel.

I have a set of those on my 53 vicky , a nice flatty with headers and smithys ........good lord what a sweet tune she sings ........puts a smile on my face every time......puuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrfect....lol

  4. Only a true hot rodder would get that emotional about his mufflers, perhaps the beer helped?
    Does the same to me...

Wow, what a way with words!. The man's a poet and don't know it.

I got Smithy's on both of my cars, and the only thing that's been on them consistently through out the years. Glad you could express the feeling, because due to dislike of beer and the lack of a good bottle of Jack, I just can't get the words out like you did.:D

Too bad you can't hear the sound the steelpacked Smithys your grampa & his buds remember ... the current production gl***pack Smithy is just another example of a product relying on an old name for it's sales ....

I wonder if it'd be worth doing a dyno comparison between Smittys and Cherry Bombs?
What other gl*** packs are out there?

Keep drinking man, most artists receive their true inspiration in an altered state. Mr Smithy would be proud.
