I was wondering what the advantage is to using WD-40, water works fine for me and is much easier to clean up.

You know, I would love to give you a great answer but like I said I have never done this and the friend that welded up the chips recommended that I use WD-40. Perhaps for a lubrication so that the Aluminum does not get to hot? Not sure, but when a man as talented as Scott talks to a hack like myself I listen intently.

Hahaha Chris. I want the car to be more go and slight show that's why I did not want to polish them. More of a car that cleans up a bit on the track and looks good doing so rather then one that gets polished every other day to keep up it's charm.

I may have no other choice though. The fronts are looking pretty polished already so I think I'll leave them alone.

I scrubbed the other wheel center down with the Steel wool and made it uniform. They looked good as is but I wanted that color. I found a duplicor that I am going to dust on there and see what I have. The color looks like it's going to match perfectly so I should have the pics in a day or two. None the less I am less worried then I was when I started this thread. The wheels are going to look great I think.

The rim sanded to 2000 looks great, I can't imagine what it's going to look like once I get the polish and ball out. Lug Nuts are my real issue right now. Need to find some nuts that look the part and period.

  9. Dunno if this helps.

I believe these are Mr. Gasket open lugnuts.
I cut them down for clearance underneath my 34 V8 re-pro caps on my slot mags.
