PPofC; Thank you so much for the kind words. You are truely a gentleman. I'm thrilled I got the opportunity to not only meet you in person but to actually spend some time getting to know you. Hopefully we can all get together the next time your in Detroit. I would love to introduce you to not only Big Olds but the rest of the Detroit area HAMB guys. The photo of you and I turned out great and so did the group shot. I'll post them in a few minutes.

Wingnutz, (I say with a sarcastic tone in my voice [IMG] ) So..... it was my Salt Flat cookies that brought you over to the roadster and not my charming personality, witty sense of humor, or movie starlet good looks??? [IMG]

I'm glad you enjoyed your LUNCH of cookies. [IMG] It was wonderful to meet you and your lovely wife. Looking forward to our paths crossing again in the near future.

Damn, I'm kicking myself for not going to that show. Had a busy weekend doing an engine swap at a buddy's house.

Anyone know what the mill is in the coupe in the forground of this picture? Any more info here?

Some bad ass rides up there!

the cool part was watching the streetrods getting turned away at the gate...

  5. It was good to talk to HAMBers I hadn't met yet, Broman, Top Dead Center, Mr.Gasser, Atch, Hot Rod Josh, Paso John and ones that I already knew, Side Valve, Bob Bleed, Plowboy, Abomber30. Sorry I didn't meet the rest of you. Wearing a HAMB t-shirt sure helped, wish all the HAMBers had one. Max

thanx to everyone who was involved in putting on the pileup. i don't know who is who, so i'll not try to mention names.

to the 20-30 hambers i met, it's good to know ya. to the other 20 or so that were there that i didn't meet, i'll be lookin' for you next year.

i'm sure denise will be able to identify every hamber in the pic at the hotel. if she had 1/10th of her memory and i had 10 times as much as i now have we would have about the same amount. hell, i introduced myself to wingnutz twice 'cause i didn't remember the first time.

bleed, thanx for talkin' tech with me while everyone else was concentrating on partying.

i guess some of you guys partied somewhere before you got back to microtel, 'cause zor & i drove through their parking lot about 9:15 and didn't see one hot rod. or maybe we went to the wrong hotel. anyway we went on to frankfort where we were staying. wish we would have went to supper with you guys so we wouldn't have gotten separated and we could have partied with you. however, we heard the last of the bands play, saw the awesome flame shows, partied with the crowd, and finally called it quits.

i've got to agree with everyone on here who's said this was the best show he/she has been to in a while. this has been probably the best season of hot rod events for me ever. bonneville. hamb drags. the pileup. and a cruise of 125 miles to bennet springs state park (missouri) with about 10 of my best friends (5-6 of them are hambers) about a month ago for a full day barbecue.

i don't remember who (surprised?) it was, but someone at the drags mentioned that at the end of the day he hadn't heard even one time anyone being asked "when you gonna finish it?" or "what color you gonna paint it?" or any other such nonsense. there wasn't any of that stuff here, either. it's nice to be around people who "get it". i've owned clarence over 30 years and have been asked those kinds of questions hundreds of times, maybe thousands. i quit trying to explain it years ago. now i just say it was finished ten years ago.

next year i'll have a room for friday and saturday nights. i'm on the e-mail list for event communications, and i'll be watching for the official date. as soon as the date is set i'll be getting my reservations. is the microtel the hotel of choice for most people?

once again, thanx to everyone who worked to put on this gig, the bands, and all the participants that i met.

I thought I'd mention that there were around 130 REGISTERED cars at the show, but I know many many cars did not register because they were stingy or because we told them not to bother after we ran out of shirts. That total also doesn't count the cars parked in the ditch, along the highway, or across the street. It also doesn't include the dozens of bikes and scooters. I have no idea how many people were there. Anyone want to take a guess? We didn't bother trying to take a count. Thanks again to everyone for coming! Thanks to the Cheaters for not coming (in front of everyone).

Yeah Atch! Where were you??? You coulda driven around town with us trying to find a place to eat that wasn't being overcome with Homecoming Highschoolers! We ended up eating at some place in the old down town...that was WAY too nice for a buncha hotrodders...but they welcomed us with open arms, and we had a great time....I'm not too sure what some of the old people that were there for a semi-elegant dinner thought of us though...oh well [IMG] You missed a good time - next year, when I invite you to dinner, you better show up!!

The Microtel was the only hotel that gave us a group discount (Thanks to Denise!!!!), so it was the choice by default. Hopefully they'll have us back next year and we can get in early and book ALL the rooms. Plus, they had a computer room so we could post on the HAMB after the show!

  15. Yeah, luckly I managed to keep the guy who drank half those 18 bottles from driving home. When did alcoholism become a major part of hot rodding? Dave

Oddly enough alcohol has a lot to do with hot rodding - no joke. Refer to chapter 4 page 125 of your hot rod history book and you'll see the moonshiners smuggling hootch across the county line......

    ok that was fun.

But seriously does a HAMBer own that Pontiac? Just curious, I almost bought one of those and was wondering how much he got it for?

  18. All I can say is, "WHAT A GREAT FUCKING SHOW!!!"

It's a good thing it's the last one of the summer...
It's gonna take all winter for this boner to go back down... and to get MIKE ZENOR's spuz off my coupe [IMG]

    See you queers next year.

    Love,
    JOE[IMG]

    P.S. Sorry about SPARKY... [IMG]

  19. The poncho belongs to a non-member, my friend Thor (real name, no shit). He's the PBR posterchild. He built th poncho a few years ago when he was about 16. He got rearended on thursday before the pileup, hence the bid dent in the back seen in other pictures. Dave

Yeah PBR sponsored the show by giving us cool shit to give away/raffle off and 30+ cases of beer to GIVE away. They rock! As a matter of fact, I was talking with the lovely PBR Ladies last night and one of them said "Those Cheaters were disgusting during the raffle!" What the HELL were you knuckleheads doing?! You weren't playing "Peanut Butter Rim Job" again were you? [IMG] I swear, we can't take you boys anywhere.
