FNG who has been lurking around for way too long, have decided to jump in. Grew up in Raleigh, NC and got to see NASCAR Grand Nationals on dirt and drag racing before Christmas trees. These days lean more to the customs. Great to find so many other kindred spirits.
Atco??? Holy smokes, when I was a kid in the '60s Atco Dragway was up there with the holy grail. Anybody who was anybody raced there. Never figured that 45 years later I'd still be interested in the same stuff. Wish I had kept all those old magazines with Atco and other holy ground mentioned. Thanks for the welcome. Thanks for the welcome, Oldsman. I grew up in similar cir***stances, but my father was a pretty stern Pennsylvania Dutchman who thought hot cars were foolishness. But he was pretty good about taking me to the local dirt tracks and dragstrips. I had to wait until I left home to scratch my itch. The hot car at high school where I grew up was a '56 Chevy. Never owned one, but got the bug watching the other guys flog away on those old rides. My first real old car/hot rod was a '56 F100 I bought with the last $300 I had in 1976. I was working as a carpenter at the time and needed it as a hauler. Old 272 in it with a 3.90 rear. 10mpg, but man would did it have the torque! More of a custom guy today, though. Pete Richmond, VA
