I lived pretty close to Niagara Dragway growing up. It closed in 73, while I was away in the Army in Germany. I raced for years at Lancaster, Empire and Cayuga while living in the Buffalo area. In 83 I relocated to Schenectady, NY and raced and shot pictures at Lebanon Valley Drag Strip. Sold my last drag car (Dodge Avenger) when I left the NE for warmer pastures. Been in NC since 10/2003.

My son and I are in the process of building a 6000 sq ft building to open the Flying Hammer Hot Rod Shop. Building shell is up, electrical is being run and as soon as I have the money, the interior walls for offices, machine and parts rooms will start. Might be done by late summer 2009?

Welcome from the Vaughn Bros 10 minutes north of you in Hickory. Have you gotten used to the Fire Dept Training Center there that sets off a propane explosion a few times each month? When I saw the huge Black Cloud rising up from the college for the first time, I stopped off the side of the road thinking it was a terrorist attack.

I wondered what that was. I am a little bit north and out of town and not right close to the college. My son was staying with a few summers ago. No one warned us about the military practices which happen unannounced. We get home about 9:30PM and he wants to know "How we can live here?" It is a very quiet dead end country road. He says what sounds like hundreds of helicopters, with guys ready to rappel out the side doors are buzzzing the house for a few hours! By then, all of it had stopped. Found out the next day, it was a drill.

New shop is going up on Joshua Ct. in Lincolnton (actually Iron Station) near the junction of Rt 27 and 73. Check out the website for updates and a few pictures of our projects, past and present.

Hey, just wanted to say also...
If you need any extreme machining or fab work in your area, Thornburg Machine in Lincolnton and Alloy Fab in Iron Station are the BEST. They have those 2 story tall end mills, 20 ft long lathes, multiple lasers, etc.
Press capacity between the two shops is only 250 tons but tons of special tooling and louvers. I visit most all of the steel shops in NC and those two places are great.

Welcome from Florida and Good Luck with your new shop. Hey, let's have a Western NY reunion while we're at it. Grew up in North Tonawanda and raced Junior Stock at Niagara and Lancaster back in the late '60s.
