For a first effort, and a damned difficult and complex one at that, I'd have to say you have done yourself proud.
My only criticism is your failure to think through the windshield and backglass part of the job from the beginning. Plastic just doesn't get it on the street and is illegal to boot.
My congratulations on a job 98% well done and 100% inspirational!

Nice way to go!!!! "Low buck" way to do a Caprice........ if the roof have got some troubles, a good bodyworker should do it! Your extended front is a new way to got, and pretty great, always feeled it was a little short.......
love to se this finished, keep up w/pics!

I like it! Probably not what I would have done, but it has given me an idea or two.
    Thanks.

WOW - most dudes think chopping a top or sectioning is a big deal but then there is you! Sooo much fabrication is involved in what you are doing. Glass would be a nightmare to try to fit now.I think like you said Lexan is your best bet. Good luck finishing it.All the thousands of hours you are putting into it will be worth it when you let Joe public see it. Be prepared to see blank stares from people looking at ya trying to figure out what they are seeing,LOL.

Congratulations on your having the balls to do it your way. This is the beginning so you really have to post the end. This is how all hotrodding and custom work began in the first place. A thought then the actual starting of gatherning material and then the torch and welder. It looks like you have every thing in controll and on the right road to success. Hang in there.

Your balls can be seen from space.

I'm a fan of this project. I think it looks fine and the sheer lunacy of the endeavor makes me happy. Can't wait to see your future builds.

  10. yup, especially if they were straight would look cool.
decent project and a heck of a lot of work. Get it going and then take the time to clean it up and repair the "ooops" moments

    .
Even though you started with a split windshield, go that way again, as for the back window.. it's still just an opening right now to add a donor surround & glass.
The amount of cutting & welding is mind boggling, inside, out side, hidden.. wow..

Isn't a project supposed to look screwed up when the builder is in the middle of it? Mine all do. If it doesn't, why'd a guy bother?

Can't you imagine that the angels in Heaven must be yanking on the Big Guy's chain, rolling in the daisies and laughing their arses off, pointing at us! :D

I think making the car wide to fit the newer frame will look pretty cool, and give it a more powerful stance.
i dunno... just have to see when it's done I guess.
    But yeah, big balls.

  17. I don't really like it, but I want to compliment you on your follow through, ambition and work ethic. Most people would've given up a long time ago. But you have stuck with it and I look forward to seeing the finished product.

If you can't get the roof worked out the way you want it I'd say cut it off and build a Carson style top for it and then you can probably figure out a windshield that will work.

I'd almost bet that the shape of that windshield comes pretty close to something like a 73/87 Chev pickup or Chev or Dodge van from about the same years.

I think I'd have left the back window opening stock and filled in around it.

Wow.....and I mean no dissing......but it is a lot easier to make a a chassis fit the body (or to find a chassis that will) then to stretch/widen the body panels to fit the chassis.
But if you can make it work, and look nice it will be notable.

I kinda like the wide low and flat look you have going on... I think you should go to every tire store in your area and buy up all the used wheel weights and get to pouring on some lead to smooth out the lines a little and maybe french and push back the headlights to make the front fenders look a little shorter. I like the "just go for it" attitude!

    Yeah...theres some good advice.

Really man...don't give advice on things you obviously don't know how to do!!!!!!

Body solder isn't just lead and you don't simply pour it on...
Geez...I only wish it were that easy.
