I am thinking of doing my 56 up in this color combo. I thought this little model was amazing looking. Is the way this color combo looks achievable without using metallic paints? I am not looking for a flat or satin, I do want gloss.
It's HOK Candy Pagan Gold over a gold metallic. So I may be SOL w/o the metallic. Do the colors flow well? So far the response from family has been "...no", but I dig it. Way different than the 2 tone they normally have.
The Gold will be tough because it is naturlly a metallic color. I imagine 1-shot imitation gold without metallic in it
I think the gold will look very different w/o the metallic. You could try kandy pagan gold over BC26 white tinted with the kandy pagan gold. Why the no metallic stipulation?
Without the metallic the gold will look like mustard. A metallic base is a hell of a lot easier to spray than the candy.
Well I'll put it this way, if you're afraid of screwing up a metallic, don't even think about a kandy.
As others have said, gold candy won't look as good over anything as bood as it looks over gold base coat. I have used white pearl under gold candy and it looks good, but not as good as it should. You shouldnt be worried about metallics if your using base/clear paint. The metallics in basecoat do not "flo out" like they do in single stage paints. As slo put it, candy is much more dificult to paint than any metallic! If you're wanting to go candy I suggest you let a painter who has a lot of experience with it paint your car for you. Nothing looks worse than a bad candy paint job!! Check out this site for some cool looking metalics you might be able to spray. http://tcpglobal.com
Going to take your advice. I am going to order some of the firemist metallics and shoot with a base/clear setup. Saturn Gold Firemist for the body and Firemist copper for the top. See how the color combo comes out.
For a beginner, House of Kolor's Kandy basecoats aren't a bad alternative. They are the same color as their "real" candy paints, but are just basecoat and clear. Don't have the depth of a candy, by any stretch of the imagination, but the colors are the same. And Base/clear metallics nowadays, are pretty damn easy to spray, even for a rookie!
