The reason there's no response is that its a bit of a trick question! An F1 was a Ford pickup/panel made from 1948-1952. I believe all the boxes were the same. IF your talking about the bigger 48-52 trucks they weren't F1's. IF your talking about pickups/panels from 53 onward your talking about F100's. Should your question be..."Whats the difference between F1 and F100 boxes????"
i know this post is old, but im quite curious of the difference between f1 and f100 steering boxes. someone said there completely the same minus the fact that the flange has a different design but still maintains the same angle.
f-1 the worm gear is below the sector shaft and f-100 the worm gear is above the sector shaft. so f-100 has the column towards the top and f-1 its towards the bottom of the box. Also the f-1 pitman is held on with a nut at the end of the sector shaft and the f-100 is clamped on with a bolt. the one on the roadster is f-1 and the one on the floor (if you can make it out in the pic) is f-100.
F-1 box with the pitman arm held on with a large nut. F-100 box that uses a pinch bolt to hold the pitman arm on. For years they always said to use a 56 F-100 box. Why was it always a 56? I finally realized that the mast and shaft are shorter on the 56 model because of the dished steering wheel that was introduced that year when Ford went on a big safety advertising promotion. It fit a little better in the old Fords back when you had a choice in the junk yards. More belly room for us old farts.
something else to consider is that if you need to change the angle of the column the f-1 pitman arm can be repositioned on the sector shaft to line things up properly, you just have to grind out the large spline. with the f-100 box you have to bend the pitman arm.
