First off, this is not mine, I am not spamming, I don't know the owner, it just showed up for sale locally and I have been imagining the possibilities since I saw it. Anyone have info on it? How rare is it? It is 23 feet long!
years ago I got pics of another one from a guy in Colorado that had it for sale. Drivers side quarter was messed up pretty bad on it...probably hard to remember how much room you have to leave when you're turning? dig the 61 chevy car two tone paint scheme 130304607427 on epay....utah is just a bit too far for me, and with the other two boys starting college in August money's a bit short. Sure would like to have one
When I was in High School the company across from my Part Time Job had a fleet of these that were Internationals must have been 12 of them in that shop. They went out every Morning and came back every evening. But only Internationals.
that's cool... I saw a 55 chevy wagon at Pleasanton Goodguys with that same roof rack on top. wonder if it was the same company.
Odds are there's no more than a dozen like it in the entire world, but without records from the coachmaker there's no easy way to determine production numbers on something like that.
25 years ago a 47 or 48 Ford airport limo came to our local rod run. It was still running the flatty. 4 doors on each side. All these years and it never dawned on me that they had to extend the torque tube. I've put exhaust on many late model stretch limos and it was interesting to see underneath and see how they were stretched.
That is super cool. I have heard about them being school buses in small farming town, but did not know they real. You should buy if you can.
23 ft isn't bad. A new dually w/8ft bed is at least 23ft. long. Buy it and chop it 1.5", put a big olds w/4sp hydro in it.
For several years on I-35 near Lewisville TX there was a 47-48 Ford airport limosine in a lot for sale.
When I was a kid we lived in a college town and bands used these rigs. I can recall The First Edition, The Smothers Brothers, Limelighters
I think it was probably built by Stageway or Armbruster. Those two companies did a lot of those airport limousines in the 1950s and 1960s, here's one: http://my.net-link.net/~dcline/l_s_own1.htm
i have an early 60's chevy like that by me. spotted it in a guys backyard from the major street. it just sits.
I remember being impressed by the airport limos. Early-to-mid 60s Chevy (and some Rambler?) wagons. I was pretty young, though. Always a car guy.
How about an International with TEN doors? Found this one near Albany NY several years ago but the lady wouldn't sell it.Would rather let it rot beside the road.Didn't even bother to ask why.
juat seen one on another site,,was selling on craigslist for $2,000.00 quite a few left.. military,,schools,,hotels..used them... saw a fleet of 6 in Hawaii in'86..with some custom work,,and $20,000.00 it would make a great retro style limo..at $200.00per hour,,you would be in black after around 160 hours....
