I collect 49 Chevy items. magazine ads, match books, dealer display items, manuals and literature... all sorts of stuff. the main advertising slogan for 1949 is "the most beautiful buy of all". I see many other old chevy items that do not mention the year, yet have a slogan on them. one I'm looking at right now is an ashtry that says "first in popularity, finest in value" ..another is a ****on which says "try it" which is part of the "Eye it, try it, buy it" advertising slogan. I was wondering if anyone knew what years these slogans may have been used, or any other Chevrolet advertising slogans and what years they correspond with.
I have to dig out my pin-back collection. I have a bunch of Chevy ones, some are dated but most are a guess as to when they came out.
I have one of those watch the leader ****ons. I have no idea what year it was used. as well as a couple more I can't identify. never seen the other one.
We've collected Chevrolet memorabilia for years. They've had various slogans over the years. Some of the better known include "Eye it, try it, buy it", "Watch the Leader" and "It's Wise to choose a six ". But their most popular and most used slogan is "For Economical Transportation". IT appears on items from the 20's to the 50's. You can see above that each matchcover has a different slogan. These covers all date to the late 20's and early 30's. Another popular ad campaign Chevrolet used was the one used above. They paired an owl with the slogan, "It's Wise to choose a six". This dates from 1927. Here are a few signs that use "For Economical Transportation".
In 1927 Chevrolet had an ad campaign ***led "The World Series of Sales". Each month when a salesman met their quota they recieved a different award. The awards included hood ornaments, watches shaped like a 27 chevy grill shell, binoculars, and even a baseball bat with a special plaque on it. chevrolet never did anything else like this, at least not on this grand of a scale. I'll add some photos later on.
