Thanks for the time trip.....It's hard to believe that places like that still exist.....grew up in a small town but after 50 years in LA I forgot about what they felt like......brought back a lot of memories..............

Thanks! I wondered if people from the big cities knew places like this still exist. We still have wide open spaces too. Along with beautiful grain crops that allow us to fill the world's bread baskets.

boy these places are hard to find anymore. I grew up in MO in a town of 200 people and we had two small shops like this. Those old guys hang on to everything. i borrowed a brake tool from my grandfather and this is what he told me, "Don't lose that. I bought that in 1951 when i opened the service station uptown." well, that wasn't that long ago.

Nut yeah i think people long for these places now more than ever. What i wouldn't give to grab a coke in a glass bottle out of one of those machines and just sit. this guy here has it figured out. Someday i hope that a majority of my decision is whether to sit outside or sit inside. Now i'm sure he does more than that, but i can dream can't I.

thanks for the daydream man. i needed it.

Looks like he has free air too! Try to find that in this day and age "in town".

Yep, that old air compressor is still in use. In fact one day I was there the local township road grader stopped and aired up a tire and we got to talking. Doc introduced us and told him I have a Model A. That guy says "I have 3 of them myself, in a garage right down the street here". More on that later......

Priceless pictures and story. It reminds me of a time when I was a kid in the backseat of my parent's car and we were travelling from Manitoba to Saskatchewan. We stopped for gas in some tiny town. As my dad pumped the gas I was watching the old grizzled mechanic who was sitting on the front steps, hands black with grease to the elbows, while he enjoyed a peach. That vision is burned in my head.

Really neat pictures. Reminds me of a little village I live a couple of miles from. I grew up in the country just out side of the sprawling metropolis of Owosso, MI (joke here but it's a neat town). Just north of the house I grew up in is the village of Henderson. Not much there besides the grain elevator, a post office and Henderson Hardware. The elevator sold 10 cent pops and the hardware store sold penney candy, he had pop too but it was more 25 cents out of an old coca-cola cooler. This was in the 80's but probably hadn't changed since the 50's.

Man that is a great story. Talking with the oldtimers can provide some of the best insight. I used to listen to my grandpa's stories of the good old days. Those were great times. Now I try to get to my Uncle's for stories when i get the chance.
