OT: Any of You Guys Still Skate?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tony Bones, Sep 24, 2004.

1. As I watch my two year old get older, I often think of the things I loved doing as a kid. Skating was pretty high on the list for quite a few years. Thought I better pick a skate up and clear the cobwebs away before the little guy wants to roll.

My new old skate:

-Repop Vision Psycho Stick (just like I had when I was 9)
-Indy's
-Powell Bowl Bombers
-ABEC 3's

Went out and bombed around a bit this evening. Going to be a while before I'm comfortable enough to hop in a bowl (just down the street), but I had fun.

Strange that I feel "old" at the age of 26. Hope little Logan doesn't mind having old dad tag along to the park [IMG]

That is a bad *** skate man. I just picked up a repop Rob Roskopp Deck that Santa Cruz just released. They are way cool boards but they are such limited production that I am not sure that I want to run it. I may just hang it on the wall to look at and ride the other deck i just got. I do have some old vision Blur wheels that would be kick ***.

I try to get out and skate every once in a while though. I have found that I break alot easier now and it hurts to fall.

I guess that means that I just dont skate enough.

If any San Diego guys are into it speak up and lets go skate.

I still have an Ed Roth Fink board from the 60s, but you would'nt see me riding that ******* on a bet. [IMG] [IMG]

6. I never was that good on a board, I first skated on a NASH woodie in 76 though. I keep thinking a Longboard would suit my style now though.

My last board was a G&S Danny Smith? I forget, is that the right name?

My fav board was a Hosoi Hammerhead.

Rode a couple Roskopps that pals had as spares.

SMA 38" Longboard
Indy stage V trucks
OJ Slalom wheels(Like them soft wheels on the longboard)

It's lower and slower than my merc [IMG]

8. I just gave my skateboard to a friend so as he could scavange the indys and wheels, as I was using it as a dolly under my A sedan body. We have a KILLER 10' vert ramp in the backyard behind the shop but the masonite is warped after last winter and nobody wants to pitch in to re do it...

9. I was a park/ramp skater, sponsored by FTW Skateboards and Pro Designed (Both Texas Based) from age 13-16. After busting a wrist over a spine during a contest, I realized that I was neglecting my p***ion, BMX. I guess I wanted to remain where I reigned, and it wasn't on a board....so I continued with the two-wheeled dirt ***ault and put the skateboards away.

A**** the tons of decks I went through I had a few favorites...

Alva Skateboards
Craig Johnson Model "El Loco Gringo"

10. H-Street
Elguera Model "El Gato"

11. And my favorite and longest lasting deck:

G&S
Bill Tocco - Octopus

13. Sorry...I was just gonna say that I painted a hot rod on my skateboard and it had Moon Equipped decals. [IMG]

I do, occasionally. I'll ride my sons new-fangled 8x29 double kick big concave board with those itty-bitty wheels, also I'll steal my friends new long board with w-i-d-e Indys and OLD Makaha wheels, those real wide, red deals (one of the first polyurethane wheels). Maybe if I'm real good, the wife will get her soon to be 40 year old husband a skateboard for Christmas. A looong board please.
Does Elguera still skate or did he leave it all behind for a real estate license or something?

My favorite was my Wes Humpston-Dog Town with Independants and some sort of Powell-Peralta wheels.

I recently saw some neighborhood kids skating at the park, so I dug my board out and headed up there. I picked alot of it back up pretty quick. Now I have 12 year old kids knocking on my door wanting me to come out and play. Strange.

i rode that one, as well as a monty nolder BBC monty mini. and an early mike vallely. i had my share of powell early 90's hawk boards too.

and naw i dont skate any more. i was sponsored by a local skate shop when younger which i thought was cool then but now that I think about it all i did was get some free decks every so often.

i keep telling myself im going to get a longboard together for cruising.

19. Every now and then... But I **** because I don't do it enough anymore. I still have:

A Blockhead Hardtimes with blue Indy 169's and pink Powell Mini Rats.

A mint Alva Dave Duncan board

A cracked Vision Jinx... (Not a remake)

And a remade Schmitt Stix Rip Saw.. When i was young, I always wanted that board and never found one.. Now I bought one recently, to hang in the living room..

Here's my buddy.. he got 30 this summer.. Still rippin'it up. Airwalk to fakie...

I rather ride BMX though.. Never stopped for 24 years..

On my buddies bike... These pics are from a week or 2 ago... A real good session at a local pool.

I still skate probably once a week, and I ride BMX too. I dont have any of my old boards cause I broke must of them, but I wish I did. I have a boy(9) and a girl(11) that both skate and they ****! I break out their boards and embarr*** the **** out of them then go back inside and laugh. My boy is still trying to get the hang of ollie'ing(sp?) and I regretfully wait for the day the board comes up on him destroys his nads! [IMG]

You all know what I'm talking about!

24. I still have my Simms Jeff Phillips...although a chance meeting between a car in reverse and myself sort of put an end to my skating days. Knees just don't bend that way.

I WISH I still had my Haro Sport.......man I loved my bike.

We skate every Sunday morning. Not as good as we used to but we still think we're punk rock. Alot of us used to skate for a couple of local Dallas companies. I guess we're trying to re-live the days where nothing else mattered and you just had a blast skating w/ your buddies, now that I think about it, thats what we're doing whether its with rods or with boards. In an attempt to stay punk rock I still skate my old Alve Craig Johnson and my Bill Danforth. Thanks for the post.

My docter thinks my current knee problems are from old skate injuries [IMG] but it was my only way to get around in my old punk days, favorite board- dog town tri-plane

Actually, this post is pretty on topic... Ever noticed how many old skaters are now hot rodders?

I was a skate kid. Spent my pre-adolescent days ragging on Gator and loving on guys like Jason Jesse, Hosoi, Phillips, Caballero, etc... I worked at a skate shop too, but I must admit - I was a terrible skater. I tried and I was fearless though and that's what it was all about.

This creative environment is really what lead me in to lowriders which in turn got me into hot rods and customs. They were all art forms based on transportation and that has always been my thing.

I skated an old board that I made, used boot skate wheels also.

Never had any money, a trend I still follow, and my MOM wouldn't spring for one. She didn't like me skating as we had no insurance and my brother gashed himself open first time he stepped on a board at a friends house.

I ****ed, real bad.

I blame the board.
