Reality Check - 1929 Modified or 1950s Styleline

So sitting in the garage right now are almost all the parts to build a 1929 Model A Roadster Pickup - Modified. Body, Hopped up Chevy 250, Powerglide, '40 Ford front end, Springs... the whole shooting match. I even will have it ***led as a '29.

It will ****ing rock.

I have always had a sweet spot for the early '50s Chevrolet... I have the cash..

Do I say screw the hot rod, buy a stocker Styleline and build the mild custom of my dreams?

How could anybody see the pics of Clark's 999 and not want a modified?

 

I was in a similar boat ... just reversed. Had the Styleline and fell head over heels for a rotted old coupe body. Was it the wisest course of action? I mean, I could have had a sweet old custom on the road a lot faster and missed out on learning how to dehole swiss cheese metal ... but I'm a romantic at heart and sold the Chevy. Still have a rusty pile of metal that's a LONG way from being road worthy, but I have not had a single regret. Good luck.

 

You seem to be more excited about the 29. Go for it!

 

I've been where your at plenty of times. I'd buy a '50, build it as you drive it, get it to where your satisfied and all the while collect parts for the '29. Then as you enjoy the '50 you can build the '29 and keep collectin bits for it.
Believe me it'll take you way longer to get the '29 decent and drivable then to do a couple of mods on the '50 while cruisin it.

yeah if you have the bulk of the parts for the 29 and the cash to by the chevy why not do both. by a decent driver so you can enjoy that i wrench on the hot rod.

 

with room, money, time, family, life, etc... it's one or the other.

Buy the '50

I had a chevy, and liked it but got bit by the wagon bug, so I got my 60. Got rid of the 51 for a t bucket, but that really wasn't what I wanted. So waited did some work on the wagon and got my A Coupe. I don't have a lot of time to work on the A and I'm still putting $$ into the wagon but you know what? I have my driver and my hot rod project and I'm pretty happy. I like driving cars, so I like having a driver, I like projects too, but I'd pick the driver over the project if I had to have just one.
The gr*** is always greener no matter which side you pick.

 

I say the 29,I can't believe how much more fun I've had in a hotrod,compared to my old 54,but it also ****s not having somethin fun to drive while your building it

 

Build the modified, have some fun with it for a year... then sell it and find a really nice 50 chevy that is a good starting point and driving.... That's what I'd do!

 

I've really got to liking these 49-54 chebbies in the past few years. They are cheap for now but I think as they get more popular they will increase. I got a steal on a 52 afew wks ago and nabbed it..
I have a 69 camaro, 60% done, 65 chevelle not even started it. cant drive either. been all over hell and back in my more door 63 bel air and have grown a fondness too. Over 101 k on all orign 283, 3 on da tree

 

depends on how far your cruising will be. Hot rod 30 miles or less longer trips the 50 would be great.

I have seen so may people put a couple g's into each of their project cars and never finish any of them. You have the parts for the 29. Get her done!

For flat out fun I'd say the '29 for sure, but I also love the Chevy Styleline/Fleetline bodies. Tough choice... You can't store the '50 around the side of the garage tarped up and ready for a build in a few years? Tell the wife you'll build it for her...

After meeting you the wife and the kids , i say put the killer 250 in the 50 throw the kids in the back the wife in the front and drive it.
