Well, let's find out. First mistake was in scanning them @ the college and saving thing in Word, let's see if this'll work... If this works, you should be seeing a too-far-away shot of my buddy Dale's super pro T...

Well, whaddya know. Here be some pics from the Samoa 'Strip from Aug. 29, the Samoa Challenge Cup. First pic was of Dale Waddel, whose drag T was that weekend's super pro champ. By season's end, he was 2nd in the points. Soon, I'll have closer/better shots of my friend's kid behind the wheel (a treat he offered to the 7 year old, even fired it up with the kid behind the wheel, kickin' and yelling with delight. Lucky duck.).
Second shot is of Crescent City's Richard Williams, one of my favorite regular drag cars. As you can imagine, Bad At***ude gets mighty squirrely. The 8-second car's been second in this season's top qualifying times. Just wanted to treat y'all to some nostalgia-style drag cars...

One of two regular slingshots, Scott Anderson, that guy's all over the place. Don't mind watching from up in the tower, though. [IMG]

So now that I've corrected this problem (of pic posting, or at least how they were saved), here goes the question I started last week: what have you snuck in the garage, when yer significant other wasn't looking?
When we lived in the Eureka townhouse, the garage was to be neutral, neither of our vehicles, just for storage and mini-workshop space for me. A week before we had to move out, she went out of town for the weekend, and, well...
I just HAD to bring it in from the summer fog, get some indoor bodywork done.
True confessions of a gearhead geek.

Can't tell well from this shot, but it took all night to clear enough space, then I finally tucked 'er in...

Was just rushing to get a temporary floor bed in the back, after wiring in some new taillights and primering the bed box 'n rear fenders, to get them out of the garage and moving stuff. Oddly enough, this was Opening Night of the Olympics, 8/21, kept sprinting back 'n forth betwen the house and garage, well past midnight, hoping to have it ready for the Nostalgic Drags the next morning (to work there, not race).

By the following Saturday, I actually had it back on the road, ready for dump & storage runs (it'd been a long while since it was on the road, much less with a bed on it).

After nearly 3 weeks of ongoing house hunting via friends' places, we finally got a townhouse in Arcata (am now renting a garage nearby from it, for the '57, finally have it indoors for good), and Stage 2 of moving will happen in the upcoming week. Oh Goodie.

  10. Good looking truck man! I always loved '57 Ford trucks. Glad that they are finally getting treated with respect and getting Garage space.

    Hey Cat,
What is the story on the hto rod scene in Arcata these days? I am living down in the San Luis area right now but I am thinking of relocating back up to the North Coast. Saw the drag pics and they are great. Any clubs up there? Anything prowling the square on weekends?

    Thanks,
    True

Hey True, it'd be quite *****in' if you did end up moving here, there'd be more than one person in the Humboldt Chapter of the HAMB. [IMG]
I'm learning as I go- when living here before ('98-'01), I hadn't been into cars in awhile, so my radar wasn't as on. Moved back a couple of years ago fully re-infected by hot rod bug, this past year got out of the garage alot more, especially with working out at the dragstrip.
There aren't many hugely popular car clubs, they're just known if yer in that circle of folks. The theory goes there's so many environmentalists and holistic folks, most event promoters keep things discreet as possible (it makes things easier if you want the city of Eureka or Arcata to play along with your event idea). Our dragstrip orgainization has gotten grant money recently, by Eureka, mostly on the merits of our street-legal race nights, headed of by Eureka P.D.
In the past month, I've met the Pharoahs, an informal club of guys originally from Sonoma County in '62, right where they actually filmed some parts, but don't know where they're based.
Arcata's car gatherings are centered more around Toni's grill in north Arcata, fourth Friday of every month between March and September. Trying to remember the organization that runs it... used to be at V & N Burger Bar, then last year moved it up to Toni's .
There's no room for car buffs on the Plaza, it's mostly the 'holitic Mother Earth muffin' crowd, the homeless hippies and the organic farmer's market crowd. The car stuff happens more in Fortuna and often in McKinleyville.
People come out to the drags, though, whether down from in McKinleyville, Trinidad, Arcata, even Crescent City, and up from Fortuna, Redway and Garberville, so that seems to be the center of it, though I'm always working the Friday nights that the Toni's crowd is gathering, at that seems hugely popular.
Howell-N-Hot Rods, that's the group running the Toni's scene.
Got to meet alot other groups & clubs while at Cruzin' Eureka, including the Turd Heads of the North Coast, they helped run the event, got a lil' thank-you participants' thank-you note from the Turd Heads, how thoughtful. [IMG] Gotta find out more on them, even if just for kicks.
    So when ya comin' up?

Heh, make that two. Hey you might want to check down by Mail Haul and the ****** shop down there, looks to be a 59-60 Ford truck like yours with the dual headlights, been sittin in the guys yard for a couple of years (10 or so)

PS Next year on the 22nd we should have a car show on "Car Free Day" in Arcata. [IMG]

Hard to believe, innit? [IMG] "To the Fresh Freeze!! That's an order..." The timing of the showers was perfect during Cruzin' Eureka, on the 11th: sunny skies changed to early afternoon clouds that threatened to burst wet, and didn't do so until right after the Old Town cruise was wrappin' up. Great timing. [IMG] Oughta be more car shows 'round here, climate-be-damned...
