56 Ford 4 door. I bought it several months ago but I just got it home today. Now I have to go back and get the 2 door 56.
That is sweet looking. Looks like the trim is in pretty good shape, is the rest of the car? All rainy wet it looks like a show car in the weeds in the thumbnail image!
It looks worse pulled out of the weeds. The rockers are shot, there is a big hole in the floor on the driver's side and a small dent in the driver's side quarter panel. A couple of pieces of the trim are missing from the driver.s side and the Fairlane emblem is missing off of the trunk, only the mounting holes remain. I don't know if the missing trim pieces are in the car somewhere or not, there is quite a bit of stuff in it. It has some funky front seats in it out of some unknown later model car that will have to go. I have the ***le and I think the car looks like a lot of fun to own. I'm getting eager to here that Y-block run. It has the old "teapot" 4-barrel on it but I just happen to have an intake off of a 57 that I will be putting on this car. It has the three on the tree transmission, I'm not sure if it has overdrive or not. There is a cable under the dash, I drove a 56 years ago that had an OD and it seems like that was the arrangement it had but that is so far back in the murky past that I couldn't tell you for sure. I'll know more after it dries up around here enough that I can get it unloaded. Then I'll have to get back to get the 2 door. It's a 6 cylinder three speed. I wanted it for parts for my 56 Mainline 2 door sedan that my dad gave me on my 14th birthday. It was vandalized a few years ago, which upset me immensely, and I had been looking for a parts car. Hopefully I can get it back on the road before I'm too old to enjoy it!
The engine turns, it was last run a couple of years ago. I'll take some interior shots of it when I get it over to my place. Right now it's sitting over at my Mom's on my Brother's trailer. It started raining yesterday as soon as we started to load it. By the time we had it on the trailer a thunderstorm was going on. Nothing like tying down a car in the pouring rain with lightning crashing all around. I took it over to Mom's since I don't have enough hard surface to turn the van and trailer around where I live and I didn't feel like backing it up a half mile down my dead end road in the rain.
I'm not a Ford kind of guy but '56's are beautiful. I love the factory two tone combinations. Good finds.
Not 100% sure but those bucket seats appear to be 69-72 GM A-body seats, like Chevelle and GTO. Definitely worth a few bucks on eBay to resell to a musclecar restorer. Those are a good score, make some money to put toward your project. So the 4 door is a parts car for the Mainline, or they're both projects, or? I'm confused a bit as to what the plan for these cars is. A black 2 door post Mainline with the V8 and a 3 speed/OD would be a sweet setup.
That's good to hear about those seats. They look a little out of place to me in a 56. Here is what I have and my plans for them (at this time, things could change). 1. 1956 Ford Mainline 2 door sedan Purchased by my parents new. I have owned it since Dad gave it to me on my 14th birthday. He intended for me to fix it up and take it to the strip so I wouldn't race on the street. This car holds tons of sentimental value for me. It was vandalized a few years ago by a couple of teenage relatives and their friend. To vandalize that car was a sure fire way to hurt me. I wanted the black 2 door sedan for a parts car for this one. 2. 1955 Ford Customline 4 door pink with a white top. Owned by me since I was 16, my parents picked it out for me to buy from a friend, 61,000 actual miles. A pink and white 4 door was not to cool when I was in high school. I've had it sitting in a shed since I was 17. 3. 1955 Ford Fairlane Town Sedan. Purchased for a parts car. It's complete and in not too bad of shape. It had been sitting in a barn for years. 4. 1955 Ford Courier Sedan Delivery. I bought this as a project. 5. 1956 Ford 2 door sedan, black 6 cylinder. I still need to pick this up. Purchased for a parts car. 6. 1956 Ford Town Sedan 4 door. This came along as a package deal with number 5. Now this is what I intend to do with them, this could take years. Number 1, The 2 door sedan that I have owned for years, it is my intention to put a 390 FE with a 4-speed behind it and a 9-inch rear end. I now have almost all the parts I need but I intend this to be a long range project, this is like the holy grail to me and I want to be totally satisfied with the results. Number 2, 1955 Ford Customline 4 door pink with a white top, I want it pretty much as it is. I will have to drive it to my 35th or 40th cl*** reunion and see if anyone remembers it. Number 4, 1955 Ford Courier Sedan Delivery, I'm presently thinking about using the drivetrain from my wrecked 88 Lincoln LSC GTC in this one. 302 HO AOD and the disc brake 8.8. I'm thinking that should yeild some decent fuel economy and have enough power to be fun to drive. I have the ulimatum from my daughter that she intends to drive this one to prom so I'm kind of under the gun here. I have about 2 years until then. Number 6, 1956 Ford Town Sedan 4 door, I want to get it running and just have some fun with it. It's going to take some patching and I need the practice. I wish the rear bumper wasn't so rusty since I like the exhaust exiting from the bumper openings. I like the Thunderbird Y-block and three on the tree. I intend this one to be first on the list to be driving.
I've been told that the 70-72 Monte Carlo and Grand Prix used the same bucket seats as the A-body cars did. Very possible. If they have the original tracks in good shape and the seats are complete I would think they'd bring $200-$300 on eBay as a pair. Nice when it works out that way. My '57 Chevy had '71 Challenger buckets in it when I got it. I paid $300 for the car and sold the seats for $356. Paid for the car and the ***le.
That is a not HAMB friendly 71 Torino Cobra and we have had way too much fun in that to let it go. I'm headed south this week to pick up a parts car for that.
What a lucky guy to have the car your Dad had and the car you took to high school ! I have a 55 Fairlane Town Sedan with a Y block . I always loved the body style and love the sound of the Y block ! Mine is a fix as I drive but I drive it more than I repair it ! I am making an Old Skool Hot Rod out of her ! 3x2 , Isky cam , dual Smithy's and all the rest of the goodies ! Keep us posted on the cars !
The original tracks are mounted to the floor on boards. $200-$300 would make this deal a whole lot sweeter!
