1o foot of chain, por 15 rust dissolver (i think its mainly muriatic acid) ,seal all the holes up, and heres the good bit, strap it into the back wheel of your tractor (you have a tractor, right?:)) and go for a jaunty ride around the paddocks! Ive done this , and it works!!

  4. I had good experience with cleaning and sealing a tank for my '38 Ford pickup using the POR 15 tank repair kit. It consists of three components: some stuff called Marine Clean that does a good job of dissolving crud and varnish. Slosh it around good in there according to the directions and it will look like new metal inside. Second component is an etching solution that helps the sealer bond to the metal, and the third component is the actual sealer. It's been on there 4 years with no problems. The sealer does a good job of sealing any little pinhole leaks. You'll still want to run a good inline fuel filter and change it regularly. With POR 15 as with any sealer, follow the directions exactly. Make sure the inside of the tank is thoroughly dry before putting the sealer in. A hand-held hair dryer aimed into the filler neck for about 30 minutes with the sending unit removed will get it good and dry.

  5. I think your right, the carb cleaner I used has been in the same barrel for 20 plus years, the guy that works next to me in the shop has been there almost 30 years and cant remember when they got it. It smells real nice but cleans awesome.

Have done this with a couple of chain saw chains and 2 gallons of diesel.

Just out of curiousity, what's with all the capital letters?

  8. Seems like I read on here a while back that the alcohol content in the gas they sell now is supposed to loosen up crud in your tank and cause problems with older fuel systems. Maybe you could put a couple gallons of E-85 in it and a length of chain and let it soak, shake, soak, shake... You could probably go buy an old washing machine for $20 and make sure it had a wet blanket wadded up on one side set it on spin with the tank strapped to the top. That’d shake the pudden out of it. Just be careful that the E-85 don’t slosh out and catch fire on the machine.

is it possible to clean a bit of varnish out of the bottom of the tank and lines without dropping the tank or replacing the lines. can a good a good solvent be used and flushed through the system using the fuel pump after disconnecting the line just before the filter. the truck has been sitting with an empty tank for 30 years but still has some varnish in the bottom

So why do I keep hearing the "Benny Hill Show" theme song when I think of this? With my luck, I would have a hell of a time explaining what I was doing to the responding firefighters. LOL
