    wingspread7,
I have been looking for a set of power pack heads myself. Why don't you run the fulies? As for the three twos, I am running an Elelbrock with 3 rochester 2GC's. Looks right for the era and doesn't cost a fortune.

  2. nothing wrong with a little 283, they're workhorses.
my father's 59 vette has the original 283 with 83000 original miles on it. it's never been apart and we only 2 summers ago had to have the valve seats redone and the springs replaced. it's bone stock and still runs like a top.

  3. I love how 283's rev! C4B should be similar to Z28 intake?

The C4B was first, followed by the C3B, and then the C3BX.

  6. Have a 67 only 283 and a set of 57 power pack heads. Along with a 350 turbo and chromed 47-54 Chevy pickup axle that will eventually find its way into a gasser of some type.

I had a '57 Chevy with a 283, 10-1 domes, double spring valves and a fairly rad street cam that could take most TransAms back in the early 70's. Those were de days...:D

How about a 350 that's dressed like a 283 and the owner lying about the displacement. Nawww!! no one would do that would they? A lot of real good running 283's out there that perform like a 350:eek:;)

first engine I built was my 265, bored to 283. 10.1 pistons, duntov cam, etc. While in the service, I sold it to a buddy and later drove it in his 56 chev, and boy did that baby scream. Wished I had kept it.

  14. that's a damn nice looking 283 too

Thanks. I practically stole it. Already had the tri power intake with 97's. Fired it up for the first time (on a stand) last week.

  16. al gore will love you , an electric powered 283....is see you have it plugged into a dryer outlet , so i assume it's 220 volt. you will need a long power cord though

Back in the early 70's I have quite a few 283's in my day ! Beat them to death but only one let me down and that is because the cam wiped out . Other than that you could really wind them out tight and never hurt them .

Now I am a Ford guy and have been for a long time now .
If I would have stayed with the "BowTie" I would have stayed with the 283's and 327 's .

Yeah, 'purty'...Kinda 'flatheady'. (old enough to love!)
But tell me: Where in the H-E-double toothpicks can I find an original 283 gasket set???
(I would like the head gaskets to be 3-7/8", rather than the 350-type 4" gaskets...Match the bore???)
Hope I don't have to go the '305' route...then get the right pan set...What are you guys doin' about this? (I call it a crises...)

  22. Yep, gotta love a 283! Mine is a '65 Biscayne 2-bbl variety, but it's now .030 over, 327-350 cam, with a Weiand Dragstar and 6 Holley 94s, and Edelbrock finned valve covers.

It's going in my '46 Chevy Picoupe, in front of a Muncie 4-stick and a '55 chevy third member.
