It seem like a lot of us on here have been into scale modeling or still are. Do you have a favorite kit? I've built since 1960. Still do. Everything. One of my favorite car kits was the Tony Nancy 22Jr double dragster kit. It had a cool Buick nailhead for the "T" dragster
I built a 55 or 57 chevy drag car called "Five Easy Aces", the most detailed kit I've ever constructed.
The Big Deuce, hands down all-time favorite. Here's a couple of my incarnations of the Kit.... Now in Black
I would have to say my favorite is the old AMT "Diamond in the Rough". 53 Ford pick-up with a trailer and a 40 Ford Tudor that has smashed in fenders, bent bumpers and broken gl***. Even has little chains to tie car down on trailer. Have 2 of them sitting on the shelf and am quite tempted to break out the glue!
I always thought the old Revell Thames panel g***er moulded in metalflake green with the injected small block was a cool kit. ... and even though it's kind of a ****py kit, the old Revell 54 chevy 409 powered straight axle g***er was cool too. I built that one a couple of times... as well as the sedan delivery.
Some oldies that were my favorites...each offers dozens of possibilities and hundreds of swappable parts: AMT Double Dragster...Fiat and rail AMT 1925 T double kit AMT '29 Ford/Ala Kart double kit
I wonder if the guys that bought the HAWK molds will ever release the streamliners. The monster models are kinda cool, but I would like to see those two kits in the pics above.
Monograms Sizzler,Black Widow, and all the big 1/8 hot rods......And Dan your stuff rocks man......................
I built the Red Baron more than any other model car I had, I probably did a dozen or more of them over the years. Probably still my favorite, along with most of the Tom Daniels stuff.
I've been building since about '60 also. There are a lot of kits I would buy just for kit bashing, but my two favorites still are the Monogram '32 deuce sport coupe, and the sizzler. You could buy a sizzler kit for wheels and engines and another kit for the body and you were on your way! If Polar Lights wants to sell a bunch of kits they ought to redo the sport coupe.
I thoough the Tom Daniels stuff was ***s too when it was a hot item. The old AMT funny car kits were cool too.
This thread is great. Thats one heck of a collection. Waaaay back in time. I built the Monogram 32 coupe. Took it out to Dad (founder) and was all proud of myself. went back into my room and dropped it on the floor. I was crushed. later that week I experimented with my first roof chop. Rodded it hard and it looked great. Dad wondered whet the pretty A went when I brought the Hot Rod out. I told him, and that was the last one he bought. I did have lawn mower rights though and a stack of clients shortly thereafter. That was when gas smelled right, doncha know.
the AMT 49 Ford Coupe. i must have built a hundred of them over the years, either that or the 50 convert. even got one squirreled away that i put opening doors and trunk on, with the interior floor structure built in and set up to be attached to a separate frame. i did that one while i had a real 51 to get measurements from.
I really like the monogram 32 3 window kit. Its a good platform for resin bodies plus the other kits monogram put out (roadster, speedwagon, 2 door sedan)
great models, my bro and i got in a fight, we slamed one another models on the floor, and jumped on them,we both got are *** beat later by dad
AMT 1/12 scale 37 CORD 812. First kit was 1958 Mercury hardtop. Many many kits and dealer promos since then.
Being a '40 Ford guy, the AMT/Ertl '40 kits (Deluxe Coupe & Sedan Delivery) were what I always looked for. I also have a Revell '40 Standard Coupe, and had the yellow version of the '40 Ford Pickup, by Monogram. Still need to find the '39/40 Sedan, by AMT/Ertl.
