I have an exploded view of your pump, it calls that a "pump shaft retainer wire" that's supposed to go through a hole in the shaft. You might be able to put it back through the slot in the housing, but if the pump has been used for years, it probably isn't going to come apart all that easy so you can likely leave it out.

  4. Can you see the hole in the shaft it is supposed to go through?

there is two holes.. one on each side.

  6. one on each side of what, the shaft...or the pump housing?
The shaft should have either a groove or a through hole.
According to R Pope, it whould be a through hole.
Have you had the pump apart?
Just curious how the pin came out in the first place.

I've seen those on a couple other pumps, not sure what vehicles, but always thought it was a retaining clip of some kind to hold the bearing/seal ***embly in position.

The clip looks like it is out of shape. That could be a problem fitting it, as well.

  12. See, that's what I was thinking, and why I mentioned a groove.

A-1 Cardone has a program through NAPA and I am sure other Auto Parts stores in North America where they can take your water pump and rebuild it and send it back to you.

it is the same shape as the real one (the one on the exploded)
i think it's supposed to be something like the c thing cuz it's a like a track with a hole in each end (inside the zoomed groove)

i pulled it out when i started tearing the car apart but never got around to pressing the whole thing apart, so now i am putting it together again so i can run the car this summer.

the only thing about the A-1 is that i don't live in north america.. i live in sweden. =(
