Are parts, like inlet and exhaust manifolds, valve covers, heads, bell housing etc, interchangable between the 1st generation post 1949 engines and the 2nd generation engines such as the 350 built from 1968? Eg, could an inlet manifold from a 1st gen motor fit on a 2nd gen 350, or trans adaptor etc? Thanks

Oh how I wish it were so. Early Olds/Caddy engines are a hard row to hoe. Nothing's easy.

I'm not up on Olds engines but I do have a friend who is working on some currently and is really doing some neat stuff like roller rockers and etc. He is Lanny at LTR Racing Engines,29330 Hyway 178 Weldon Ca.

  7. You're thinking of Pontiac engines. Even then, there's things that don't interchange across the board.

Thanks for your help there fella's. Thats too bad. Given the Gen 2 Olds engines were released in 1964, just as the muscle car era was beginning, and interest in hot rods was beginning to fall off, are there any aftermarket hot rod parts for the Gen 2 motors? Eg, can you buy a 3x2 set-up, or is it all 4 barrels? Here in New Zealand it makes sense to go with a sbc, as they're plentiful and cheap. But if possible I'd prefer that to be my last resort, and would love to run an Olds Rocket, but the 1st Gen motors rarely come up. However, Gen 2 motors are easy to sourse here.
