Hello everybody, Im trying to put mags on a stock front drum on my 49 fleetline. the original studs are too short, does anyone know the knurl and the length of stud to use, and where to buy them The rear end that Im using is out of a 70 nova. that one was pretty common and easy to find. any help would be great....

    what type of mag wheels?

most use a .75" shank lug nut or so... the studs should reach only to the edge of teh wheel if that makes sense, the lug nuts make up the difference

I'm thinking you need a different lug nut?? though changing out 60 year old studs ain't such a bad idea.

I had slots on one 49 and 5 spokes on another. no problems with a proper nut.

I thought I had a set of 51 hub/drums here but must have sold them so I measured the studs on my Mopar 8 3/4 rear I have in my parts stash. they measure about 7/8". probably 1" without the drum.

how thick is the monting part of the wheel you want to put on?

You don't need a longer stud, you need the special mag style nuts.

after looking at this rim and hub and reading your responses. i now see what you guys mean.. i just noticed that the hole is big enough so that a shouldered or special nut will fit the stud. you guys just saved me from alot of unneccesary BS. Thanks everyone

For what it matters, the most popular 2 or 3 stock length lug studs are available in an oversize length. This includes the Nova rearends mentioned, 55-64 Chevy, etc.

  12. Now, get rid of those huck front brakes and at least swap on some 51-54 Bendix-type brakes. It's a bolt on, you need the drums, backing plates and the rest you can buy new pretty reasonable.
