.........besides Danica Patrick, there is Scott Sharp and the guy from Brazil with the shory hair cut, sad but that once Great event is really history. When did the event end for you? Foyt as a driver, CART war, no Offy's, no Four Cam Fords? I'll tape it, but I have a college graduation to attend.

Tony George ruined everything...a time honored tradition in this home of watching the "500" (and before 1986 listening to it on the radio) has gone the way of watching NHRA.

    GONE. NOT. NADDA...

  4. You can bet on an Andretti being on the grid for years to come....there are two of them this year......and there's a Foyt in the field as well. Still a great event. I'll watch it.

I can't relate. What is an Indy car anyway? An airplane on wheels? Too smart for me.

NASCAR is nowhere close to being "stock car" racing but I can at least understand the technology.

    Danica is hot though.

It's still pretty neat, but sanctioning is so messed up it's pretty close to Na$car. The cars look like Johnny Lightning toys to me. Even the current crop of Formula One cars look more like real race cars. Would much rather go to one of our local shows. Last year we saw midgets, supers, and touring modifieds, in the same show, for maybe 30 bucks, how can you top that? Not with rich guys in Hondas. Thanks for asking.

If he could take out the Citco gal, and himself on lap one that would be just fine with me.

how about a H.A.M.B. event at the Speedway? just as the HA/GR cl*** was created in the spirit of **** Kraft's "Bug", H.A.M.B.'rs could create a new cl*** of recreations inspired by the #12 Duesenberg Murphy Special or Louis Chevrolet's 1919 entry.

Needs to be open to more engines. I'd like to see NASCAR engines in Indy cars. Only Honda engines ruined it for me. When Ford then Chevrolet dropped out I lost most of my interest. Now most of the races are shown on a cable channel I don't have and they quit running it on radio. Although all that said I'll be glued to my chair tomorrow until it is over just as I was on closed circuit T.V. at the T&D ( tough & dirty) Theater in Oakland when I first saw it in 1959. I even listened to it in 64 on my honeymoon. Yes I'm still married. Yes I still hear about it.

What, no Danny Sullivan to do a 360 or Parnelli Jones to loose a wheel bearing in the final laps; Jackie Stewart to drive or announce? No Smokey Yunick to comment; Paul Newman or Micky Thompson climbing the pit walls? Where did we go wrong, this was a great race. Progress i guess.

Rick Mears, Al Unser Jr., Johnny Rutherford. How about when Nigel Mansell almost won AFTER tagging the wall. The spin and win. How could we forget the first turn on the first lap! It's sad how small the race has become in our world. Carburation Day was a must see, then came "the bubble". Good times, good times.

I have no racing (or other) hero worship. I worked as a corner worker and black flagger for Indy Car from 1991 to 1997. Some drivers are extremely nice (Rick Mears) and some are just an *** (Danny Sullivan & Michael Andretti). It's just like people in the real world.

Earlier this year I was talked into working the 12 Hours of Sebring and at the St. Petersburg Grand Prix. At St. Pete I was at Turn 2/Pit Out-exit. The drivers are paraded around the track on the back of trucks before the race. I was working with a good friend of mine who yelled to Danica Patrick while pointing at me, "Hey Danica, he's your biggest fan!"

She turned on the megawatt smile and yelled "HI!" Definitely a nice thing to do. And yes, she looks just as good close up and in person. But if I have a racing hero, it would be Rick Mears. Simply one of the nicest people I've ever met (the four 500 wins doesn't hurt either).

Other than Danica, John Andretti, Helio Castroneves and Dario Franchitti are in the race. Milka Juno isn't bad looking either. And for those who think Danica is overrated, she did finish 4th in 2005. If you finish in the top 5 of this race, you owe no excuses.

  27. As a racer and amb***ador of the sport, Rick Mears was and is the definition of "cl***" when it comes to the elite driver group.

Danica seems to have found an acceptance with Lady Luck at the Speedway. If you have it there, the rest of the year is about getting ready for next year. Her finishes exempt her from excuses in any era.

Getting the 500 down here has become a pain in the *** though since having ABC costs extra when it comes to wireless cable. Lose middle America, the world comes next.

We have topped out at 225 for the pole speed since rev-limiters keep the engine in a safe range, thus as technology catches up, the cars become high speed , high cost go-carts and the curtain is slowly coming down on the importance this race has.

The front engine formula was never fully developed, and the salvation of the Speedways importance could be found there once again. The excessive money that has flowed into there was a bribe to forget sincerity found in the American neighborhood driver. Short track guys are now just a token gesture.

To obtain real power, you must know where the real power is and make the sacrifices to have it.

The Oswego supermodified of today, crossed with the Laydown Offy Roadsters of the early '60s, and the downforce areo tricks on modern Indy cars will give an idea as to where these cars could have been today.

  28. You Sir, are the kind of fan the Speedway needs to be focused on.

  29. I did get to see John Andretti run a sprinter at Lawton Ok in '87, so besides Danica and Marco, I will be pulling for him.

Try this..name three current indy drivers that could have cut the mustard in a front engined roadster at the Brickyard.
