Any Model 40 is a friend of mine :). Lot's of options with that body, if you turn her into a roadster, I'll take the rear window opening. Need one for my 3W.
Jimmy White and crew did a great job turning a 5W into a roadster and it looked great at the GNRS.
If you keep her a coupe, It will a blast as well! Have a great build! I'm stoked for you!

It will probably be some time before I can really get into it. Im recently unemployed and have a Model A project that needs finishing first. If I werent so attached to the Model A I would sell it to finance part of this project. I really want to take my time with the coupe and do it right...I dont want to "settle" for any part of it. The important part is that I have it secured.

    Congrats!!

Ya, go the hemi! But interestingly, based on a suggestion within this thread, I just found a Merc Flathead that I am buying. For what, who knows, but I like saving things for someone else someday...........!

I didn't know you could chop a top with a can opener... I stand corrected. Nice score.

I guess the guy didn't have a welder handy because most of the top was pop riveted back on and the bondo slapped over it.

Great score! She'll save. My 34 5/w was in worse shape when I started.
Looks like yours has been chopped 4" or a tad more.

I was wondering how much it was chopped. Anyone know the stock measurement of the stock window openings? Sides and rear? I would like to do a bonneville chop on it. I just don't know if I have enough to work with since so much was taken out. I guess I could add to it but it would be opening quite a can of worms.

I've always been a Ford in a Ford kind of a guy but I've always drooled over the hemi. Maybe I should find a Boss 429! Good luck right? Haha! I did see where they are making the Boss heads for a Ford big block but the Boss isn't that traditional. I do want to keep it a traditional hotrod and I'm of the belief that traditional hotrods belong to the 50's timeframe and earlier. The 60's got a little kookie IMO.

Great score! I was jsut working on my 34, 5 window body tonight and was measureing the window openings....Seems like they were 11 and 3/4ths inside the openings at the tallest part.

Cool. Thanks for that. I measured mine at 8 1/4 so I guess that would make it a 3 1/2 chop.

Nice!! You can never go wrong with a Model 40. It's nice to see your not in a hurry and have another project to finish. That way you can take your time to find parts and decide which direction you want to go. Keep us up to date as you get into the build.

Been a while since I have had any news to share on my 34 just been collecting small pieces here and there...but I thought this find was worth sharing.

A buddy of mine bought a truck a while back and while hanging out at his shop I checked out the old truck a straight little 48 Ford. While walking away from the truck he mentions he pulled the motor and trans out of it and that it was an old hemi. My ears perked up a little and asked him where it was he said its in the corner of my shop. He said he had started to pull it apart and it was stuck. I asked him what he was going to do with it. He said that he planned to rebuild it one day...so I told him well if you ever decide to sell it let me know. He said would you give $600 for it? I said sold. I took it and immediately tore it apart...it had 2 stuck pistons...took the block to the machine shop and they punched it out 30 and Im stoked.

Moral of the story...Pop the hood on everything.

NICE! Gotta love those random parts finds that you're not really intending on finding at that exact moment...but, what the hell was a hemi doing in a '48 Ford pickup?

Does that serial number decode to May '57?
