So I have a 235 for a 1954 chevy. I took it out. rebuilt it and now i'm trying to re***emble the 3speed onto it. Here's the problem. My room mate decided to "clean the garage". i had a box of bolts to put it back together that he ***umed was trash. Now they're gone. I have the bolts to put the pressure plate back on and the bell housing back on. I'm missing the trans bolts and the flywheel bolts. Also I remember some sort of spacers or something that went between the bolts that connect flywheel to the crank. I can go buy new bolts not the biggest deal. But the spacers. what are they for, where can I get them? Are they essential? This is my first motor rebuild/install and I honestly dont know what those peices are there for? Any help would be wonderful. The other little catch is I have to have the motor back in and the car driveable by 8 am tuesday or the city will tow it. So no time to ship anything.
They were flat under the two bolt with a hump between them. no tabs to "lock" the bolts. Do you mean like the 2 timing cover bolts that are in the pan wit a plate with little"ears" to stop the bolts from turning?
yeah they were locking tabs - the ends bent up to lock the bolts. also had a vent on them. flywheel bolts were shorter on the head too
So are they 100% essential? I think I may have the sort head bolts now that you mention it. All I for sure dont have are those locking tabs. can I fudge on this?
I honestly hate to half *** this, but I have a very pissed city inspector that will have a tow truck in my drive at 8:01.
Also, If i can maybe find them is there a specific orientation in the way they go on? He swears he didn't trash them, but the box is no where to be found.
To be honest with you, I wouldn't put it together without the correct bolts/hardware. You might need to find a junk engine for all of the correct fasteners. Find a wrecking yard, another Chev six cylinder lover or someone that has the right stuff and then ***emble it. Rent a garage or find somewhere else to work on it until you get it right.
Small Block Chevy V8 flywheel bolts will fit properly. You don't need locking tabs ,clean the bolts and threaded holes, use Loc***e on the threads.
I just rebuilt my engine and it didn't have the locking tabs that you are mentioning. The only place that I had them was on the u-joint and that one I did reuse. Consider your friend doing you a kind of favor as you really should replace flywheel bolts for safety sake.
**** THEM! okay I feel better. No ***hole is going to come into my driveway with out the ****in army. I don't care what any ***hole from the town or city says. Maybe it's time to tell them to get off your property? You do own it. You do have some rights. You don't have to prove that to any town or city ****er. Man make a statement and lay down in your driveway. Yell Attica or something. They shouldn't take anything without your rights being violated. Or did I miss something in the last 200 years?
Take the daily drivers or other junk out of the garage and stick the 54 in it untill you can get the correct bolts and do something about the room mate.
The car would be the least of my worries. Your question should be how to get rid of the roommate without being sent to the slammer for it. As for the ****in' busybody's from the city are concerned, put the old car in the garage (as somebody already said) and the drivers outside, like it should have been all along.
No drivers in my garage, just a makeshift engine shop/ laundry room. I've been fighting this city **** for awhile now. They are filing charges on tuesday if its not handled. Citing me for "illegal auto repair" as my house is zoned residential. They said the could write me for that for changing my oil if they wanted. I hate Wichita. I do have a sbc I will look at to steal parts. hope I can get it handled.
Glad I live in the sticks we don't even have building codes & If you have lived there longer than the law was admitted you have a chance at the Grandfather clause Enough time to stall things
