Thanks guys. The one side is realy straight the other not so much. I really only need 48" of box side so I'll be chopping up the 9' good side into two 4' bedsides. Spent tonight hobbling around, on my bum knee, and tearing the stake pockets off the rough side. Should be starting on the floor structure and mounting of the cab this weekend. And if time permits, cut down the box side and clamp/hold them in place to get a good look at how things are comming. Ryan
Well we didn't get too much done this weekend (swap meet yesterday and power outage today). But we were able to plan out the floor structure which we will tackle next weekend, and we were able to tack on one box side to see how things are comming along. on to the pics Sorry the lights were off so the pics aren't that great.
Well my buddy and I have been pretty hard at it and it's almost got a complete floor. Just have to add two more stand offs for the floor structure and sheet it. hopefully we'll get a good bunch of the floor done this weekend then we can get the bed squared away. I also scored a 28 chev grill at the Red Deer swap meet. I'm not 100% if i'm going to run it. oppinons wuld be appreciated. on to the pics.
We got quite a bit done this weekend. The floor sheet metal is down and the brake pedal bracket is welded on the frame. We also picked up a seat and I clearanced the framework to clear the driveshaft tunnel and set it in the cab. Took a few measurements once I was able to sit in it for the first time . Looks like it's going to be a 3" chop. Next weekend we'll be getting the front end on it and I'll finnaly get to see it on the ground (with some luck). I'm also still looking for some comments on the grill that I place in front. Yes, No, Hell no. Let me know what you think. On to the pics.
I got my full front end today , except for my I beam but I scored a tube axle to use for mockup. I should hopefully get the I beam next week and then it will be a "simple" swap. I'm hoping to see this thing on the ground for the first time this weekend, and I can't frigin wait. my box sides, stake pockets, backing plates, and wishbones are out for blast and I should have them back tomorrow then I can mock up the box and figure out how we are attaching it. Sorry no pics today I'll leave that for Monday. Also, still looking for comments on the front grill .
It's finally on all 4's . the front is sitting a little high at the moment, I'll take out a leaf once my i-beam comes in. I also know that this has been covered a couple million times but I haven't realy found any definite answers while searching, so, are there any stearing arms that will work "out of the box" with a 5" drop axle and wishbones? I see that magnum makes 4" drop arms for use with the 5" drop axle, but will they work with split bones ? Or am I destined to heat and reshape? If so which arms are best for doing this type of sergery (other than forged of course)?
Looking good so far, I would say no with the grill. Need to find something more round to match the cab.....
I was in the same place as you with the grill on my fenderless 36 chev. I looked at a few older grills and found them to be too square and went with a 34 grill to match the curve of the firewall. Lookin good man keep it up
Although it's probably not completely HAMB-proof, I think a Ford Pop grill might look good on it.. You'd have to score a real narrow radiator tho.. Just a noobs' 0.2. Great build!
We had a pretty productive weekend. We got the front bed pannel welded in. Patched the gaping hole in the back of the cab, and made a master cylinder access pannel. Oh yeah we also took 3" off the top .
I sure haven't updated in a while, but we have been steadily getting it done. I got my frame and components back from powdercoat and we painted a few of the smaller parts and the gas tank. I've got the chasis pretty well ***embled (I think I may have to add a leaf up front though). Brake and fuel lines are run and I made some ``welding`` battery cables. The chop on the cab and doors is done and i just have to replace the front quarters on the cab (which my buddy did a kick *** job of reproducing) and finnish off the ****** tunnel over the shifter then its off to epoxy.
Thanks guy's I should have some pics of it on the ground with black epoxy within a week. I can't wait to fire it!!!!
Hey guys I haven't been able to update since I have been moving accross the country. Here is how I left it, I'm hopping to go get it in October if all goes well.
My eyeballs are on this one!!! I am gathering parts for a 36 and have a 37 waiting on the wings!!! Nice build!!!
Does your frame taper width wise on the front? How wide is your frame I.D? Building a frame for a 40 chevy same type build.
great build man keep it up looks awesome. where did you get your rear 4 link setup and what did you figure out about the steering arms? thanks
Thanks for the kind words guy's. HotRodBen my 4 link is a TCI unit for a 32 with all american coil overs. I ended up getting the magnum steering arms for thier 5" drop axle then I had to heat and bend them to get them to clear (not much though they were very close to working out of the box). Bab59, my frame tapers from the front crossmember all the way to just behind the cab. 19" to 43" ID front to back. Looks like I won't be working on the truck to the spring. By then though I should have all the parts to get it finished (fingers crossed).
Went home earlier this month and got to play with the truck a bit. I've decided to run the smooth top 32 grill shell, but i'm a little unsure on the insert. Got the timing set and hooked up the choke, it's running like a champ now . However it looks like the trans will be needing a rebuild sooner than expected. Hopping to have the doors skined and the p***enger side cab corner done by july, Then start slinging a little filler. having the truck on the other side of the contry for the past 5 months has been killing me. By this time I could have had it fairly complete. Ah well, live and learn.
