I just got a Chevy 283 that came with a Crane cam, and I got a bit curious of its characteristics. It appears to be in good shape so it would be cool if it's still useable. I have tried to google any combination of the numbers that are stamped on the cam, with no luck, and I am a complete newbie when it comes to cams...

Anyway, here are the numbers as I found them:

    H-214/293
    -2 -4
    BE5729

I hope this helps, thanks in advance!

    H-Hydraulic

    214- duration at .050

    293- cam lift

In 72 the -2 was dual pattern and the -4 was cam centerline.

Since crane is out of business the website is not working..
Based on your info it looks to be===
    hyd. cam (H), .214 duration @ .050 lift,and .440 lift ( .293 x 1.5 rocker ratio).
Not bad numbers for a 283.
Will sound fairly lumpy at idle.
What car are you going to put it in ?

    Thanks!

As I said, I'm no good with cam numbers so I'm relying on your knowledge and interpretation. Fairly lumpy sounds just fine with me! And the motor is going into the sedan in my avatar.
