If you are referring to the rumor that it's moving to the Novi Expo Center at this point the Expo Center dooes not have the capacity to hold the Detroit Auto Show or the Detroit Autorama NOR does it have the amount of hotels in the area to support it.

I do know because the Novi Expo Center is a customer of mine that they do plan on expanding it's current size and build a hotel. Ground has not been broken yet so I wouldn't expect it for at least a couple of years.

If it ever moves my personal opinion is that the Autorama will lose alot of it downtown flair which gives the show so much personality. Let's face it, no one's walking anywhere down Grand River from the Expo Center to grab a bite to eat, drink, gamble or take a nap. Nothing is within walking distance.

big fight between detroit city clowncil and the burbs over cobo hall may result in autorama and the auto show moving out. there'll be a couple of us model car guys from downriver there with cameras in hand.

A few of us go to the Sidetrack in Ypsi on Thursdays on a regular bases for burgers. This Saturday, May 30th lots are coming over to Scott's place to do some mini-bike and go-cart riding. He's off M-14 and Ford Rd. If you'd like to join us, PM me and I'll give you his address. Anytimes after 2pm, will BBQ dinner and do a campfire at dark. Most will be staying the night. Feel free to join us even if you don't have a mini-bike. We all share our toys. I've got two mini-bikes and a go-cart myself, a few of the guys also have two, so there is always something for guests to ride.

Just a little story that happened to me at the autorama this year.I went to greektown casino on sat nite and did not get back until 10;30,a half hour after the show closed. Security gave me a hard time getting back in to retrieve my keys at my car display. After some time and a coupla gurds later they let me in to grab my stuff,as I was walking to my car ,3 guys with LARGE bags were going behind displays and vendors displays taking anything and everything they wanted. After I got my stuff I went back up to securety and told them what was going on. I was told "thems there payen customers, cant do anything about it".I then asked to see the person in charge of securety, and was told to go to the front desk area where I found the "lady in charge" sleeping across 3 chairs. I woke her and told her of the sitution and was told it WILL be handled. As I walked away I looked back to see our lady in charge lay back down and go to sleep.Sunday morning I went to the MHRA desk and explaned to 3 different people what i saw the nite before. I gave my phone # and was told I would be contacted.3 weeks later I called MHRA twice, and finaly got a call back by Dick F,he said he would be back in touch, witch again never happened.
Move the show anywhere but not cobo hall, they are ALL a bunch of thieves and I WILL NEVER SHOW UP AT THE AUTORAMA AGAIN.....PROMISE
Its a cryin shame but it's the truth............................John

You have described to everyone why Detroit is the way it is. Detroit has become a toilet and needs to be flushed.

A few bad apples in a private security company does not make the whole city a toilet. The issue I have with it is no one calling John back, thanking him for the info, and telling him it will be taken care of. It's a shame when vendors stuff is not secure after hours at an event.

With all that being said, I love Detroit. The Downtown area has some awesome restaurants and bars, wonderful museums, a world class art institute, lots of free parking, a terrific water front with live bands, artisits and tons of stuff going on all the time. What we are lacking is a shopping district like downtown Chicago....oh yeah, and a strong, honest mayor and city council that can see the big picture. There are worst major cities in this country.

Have met some good people already but want to meet more and fill the parking lot up so come on down its a great time. Location is 355 Wilson Ave SW. On the corner of Lake Michigan Dr. NW (M-45) and Wilson Ave. (M-11) There is a star bucks for you coffee people, a SportClips to get your hair cut at, and Meijers for you last minute grocery people. And a bunch of great people to meet. Any questions pm me and I will try and answer them.
