Cab, where might someone obtain that book?? Tough to find or is it as easy as Amazon? I think I'm going to have to find me a copy of that! Thanks for the tip!

Your 3W needs nothing! I love it and one day I need to check that thing out!

Great stuff here guys! Thanks everyone for posting and commenting with input!

Speaking of '35s, my wife does family history and her sister just emailed us this photo of their father & mother with the girls in front of his '35 coupe. Anyone got a clue as to what these wheels are??? They look like artillery wheels of some sort.

I finally came out of lurker status because of this post! Here's my '35 Tudor when I got it last Aug and today. It will be an early 40's custom with skirts, etc. And pics of the grill before and now with a few new bars replacing the rough area around the crank hole. I made the bars with sheet metal on a brake and welded in. I don't plan on cranking it again!

The '35 is truly unique and definitely not an ugly duckling!

'36 wheels?? You might be right. I noticed the bumpers too, my mother in law said he was always messing around changing things on the car. The girls had to ride around in the rumble seat she said.

umm - YEAH - that is pretty much a brand new grill - I have a total rust bucket - there is no way a grill like that would go with my ride.

you cant see it - but the bottom of the grill has been hit and missing a bit - so I was wondering how to go about fixing this thing up - and any other tricks of the trade that would help out.............and yes - I realize the grill is about the last thing I should be worried about fixing on this thing

Even though i've had a few '35's and 36's, I still like 35's better.........although the grille on 35's are a little fragile. My ex-35 3w had a custom grille that could wipe out road kill without leaving a scratch. It weighed a ton. Here is a pic of it.

Mine was about as bad as yours in the beginning. All folded up underneith. Just take it off and carefully pull it back into shape. Have it soda blasted and see where you stand. I think you'll find it's easy to work with.

As for the missing teeth (if that's what you meant), I'm missing one as well. I'm going to try to form one myself first and see how close I can get, but I talked to Jimmy White of Circle City Hot Rods (Hemicoupe) and he said he might be have an idea.

srodder, that grille is BEAUTIFUL! Nice job!! Do you have any close up pics?

If your grill is in pretty good shape but just has a few bent bars i've had good success straightening them by just looping a leather belt around the bent bars and pulling in the needed direction.....this works good and the grill can stay in place.
A bouncing piece of concrete hit my grill recently bending a few bars and that method was the fix and some painting....can't even tell where it hit now.

This would work well on a grill that just needs truing up after getting bumped by this and that over the years.

If the grill is in real bad shape it needs to be removed and sand blasted and new bars made to replaced the badly damaged ones...or find a better grill.

A good metal guy could shorten up the grill....but its a little hard to do because of the way the grill shell carries over into the fenders.

My mirrors are a future project to put back to a more vintage look....these were home made with the heads off of a honda motorcycle.

Edit: changed the mirrors to SoCal swan necks in pic below.

Does anyone know who the guys in Australia are making the new grilles? I have a mate chasing one and the only ones I can find are in the USA.

These are a few pica of a 35 that a friend of mine looked at because the owner wanted to sell the hood, fenders, and grille to make it a 36. My buddy needed :)rolleyes:) the parts because he thought they were better than what he had for the Cabriolet he was building for a customer. I can't speak clearly now from biting my tongue off!.....Love a 35 slantback, would rather build that than my 39 tudor:)....but the 39 was "available":D

    Awesome thread,

The 35 Ford passenger car was the transition car from the early boxy cars to the streamlined ones.
Similar to the 35 Master Chevy, which had an older style hood/grille with sleeker fenders and body like the 36 to come.

Once upon there were replacement grilles made in Argentina for the 35 along with the 34, 36, 37, 39 Dlx., 40 Std. and many others of Chevy and Plymouth too.

Then slowly but slowly better, much better, reproductions of the original grilles were made by a number of manufacturers. But the more complex grilles like the 34 and 35 were left in the dust. The V8 Shop spend a small fortune making a fairly decent 34 grille but the Aussies have "perfected" them from what I read and see on the net. Just a matter of price to have the perfection you want. There are also companies that specialize in restoring grilles and there's that big price bugaboo again.

How about some of you '35 lovers trade me some fenders for some of your unwanted '36 fenders? :D

But just so you don't think I am a complete '36 purist nutjob, I do have this hanging on my wall. :D
